Question about Frigidaire GLTF530DS Front Load Washer

I Have an LTF 530DS. The first problem was that the clothes were not spining dry, they would still be soaking wet at the end of the wash. Then just yesterday, the washer stopped completely and now does nothing at all.

Didn't address my problem. I need something specific to my model. I have a front loader which is made by Frigidaire

I Have an LTF 530DS front load washer. The barrel does not turn at all. It will fill with water and drain when the timer is moved to the appropriate points on the dial. But nothing moves, it just hums and sits there.

  • crazyc477 Nov 18, 2010

No I don't think that is it. I got an answer from another site that suggested that it was the motor control module. I am leaning toward that as a solution as it seems like the most logical answer. The water drains fine, it's just that the barrel does not move. It would at least wash but would not spin then it just stopped moving at all.

The first thing to do is if there is still water in it get a wet dry shop vac and attach it to the end of the drain hose to remove the water.
then you need remove the lower panel by taking the two screws on the bottom, then remove the hose that goes from the bottom of the tun to the drain pump and look or stick your finger in the hose/boot and feel if there is any hting built up in the coin trap it is a round plastic coin catch you should be able to remove it from the boot and clean it out.
if you are free and clear then remove the boot from the front of the drain pump and look to see if there is anything obstructing the pump.will be looking forward to see how things go before we research other parts.

Hi, when the clothes are wet at the end of a cycle, check these:

  • Motor coupler
  • Spin cycle
  • Siphoning
  • Water-inlet valve

Motor coupler To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning: If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine. If it isn't spinning--and your machine was produced by Whirlpool®--you may have a broken coupler. Many Whirlpool-made washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it completely.

Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component. Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess.

Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.

If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:
  • No power
  • Lid switch

No power Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.

It doesn't spin dry the clothes like it use to. Although there is no water in the tub at the end of the cycle the cloths are quite wet

if the clothes are soaking wet, the tub isn't spinning. Have you stood at the machine and listened for the spin? solution may be as simple as a broken interlock switch. Let me know.

The washer won't spin dry. It fills and empties but the clothes are soaking wet.

If washer is spinning but clothes are wet suspect a partial blockage in the outlet pipe. This will cause the water to drain to slow and leave some in the outer drum while spin occurs but this ends up back in the clothes.

Take the agitator apart by pulling off the softener cup and taking out the bolt, probably broken plastic DOGS. Ask your appliance parts guy for them.

After the spin cycle runs the clothes are still soaking wet

I had that problem at one time with my old washer and what it ended up being was the Washer Dog Agitators were broken and causing the it to slip and not spin correctly. I would try checking the Dog Agitators.
Here's A picture of a typical top-load washer breakdown to show you where they are located --->Here<---
I hope this helps. If that is the problem I bought mine at Sears for about $8, normally in stock item.

My clothe come out very wet at the end of the wash cycle

If the pump is clogged and can't release all the water it won't go into final high spin. Remove lower cover and locate coin catch and unscrew it. Water will come out, so be ready. If it's full of stuff, this is probably the problem.

It sounds like you need a water pump!
See if it's pumping water next time you do load by looking at the discharge hose going to the drainage pipe and get back to me!

If it goes through the complete cycle o.k. except for the slow spin then the motor itself needs to be checked.
