Question about HP Designjet 110plus nr InkJet Printer

2 Answers

The printer fails to start when the power-on button is pressed - this happened once before and was "solved" by replacing the 3amp fuse in the plug. Unless I have a whole packet of duff fuses this time it didn't.

I need to speak to someone familiar with the HP Designjet 110 as I think this is a problem peculiar to this series of printers. The power button is not a simple on/off switch but involves some form of fuzzy logic as it can turn itself off and on for various reasons in normal operation.

  • brianmurray_ Nov 16, 2010

I cannot communicate with the printer (to install firmware) because it will not power-up ie there is no green light or other signs of life. The power cable is fine.

The warranty has expired. Lets see what's involved in replacing the formatter. I'm fairly capable but f I feel I cant cope then I will take it to a repairer.

  • brianmurray_ Nov 17, 2010

Please let me have details of how to replace the formatter and where to get one..

It could be one of 2 things, the formatter board or firmware. You can get the firmware from the link below. Once you have tried this please reply and let me know if it worked or not and we will take the next step in the troubleshooting process.

It is most likely the formatter board then. If the printer is still under warranty i would contact HP to have it repaired. If its not, you can do this yourself, however if you are not too farmiliar with the inner workings and such of your printer it can be somewhat difficult. Let me know what you would like to do and we will follow up. I can send you the instructions on how to replace the formatter board where to find one if you decide that is what you would like to do. Please let me know asap so we can get this going for you.

If that fuse is failing so often, then this means that there is a failure somewhere in the power circuitry. The most common points of failures in power circuitry are silicon diodes, power transistors & voltage regulators. Please check these using the continuity test (or short circuit test) of a digital multimeter.

I am getting the message "Ink System has failed. Unable to print. Refer to printer documentation. Error:0xc18a0001." I have tried to shut it down and back on and it's still not working -...

1. Get the unit into the "Support Menu" by following the steps below according with the product,

A. - Press and hold the "left arrow" key.

B. - Press the "Setup" key and release both keys.

Display should say "Enter Special Key Combo"

C. - Press and release the "OK" button

2. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says "System Configuration Menu". (on C8100 use Touch Screen)

3. Press and release the "OK" button.

4. Display should say "Hardware failure status". If not there already, Arrow Key over to "Hardware failure status",

5. Press and release the "OK" button.

6. Display should say "Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear".

7. Press and release the "OK" Button. Message changes to "Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue".

8. Press and release the "CANCEL" button as many times as necessary, so that, either the "Welcome to Photosmart Express" screen appears, or, the "Ink System Failure" screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.

9. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.

10. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer

11. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message "USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER" followed by "PRESS OK TO CONTINUE". Press OK.

12. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the "ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS". Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.

14. If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit.

I have i canon mp210 i got the black and colour ink cartridge refilled, but when i put them back in the black and colour light still stay on. i have held down the stop/start button for more then 5 seconds...

Things to try, unplug printer for a min of 10 mins.

clean the chip on front of cartridge with nail varnish remover very lightly though.

Reinstall the cartridge holding down the button for a min of 5 seconds.

If that dont work maybe one of the cartridges have failed it does happen from time to time.

I have my own remanufacturing business so know the market & technology fairly well.

How to stop test print on Xerox Phaser 6125N?

On the printer press the "Menu" button, then press the down arrow twice and select "Admin Menu" by pressing the "OK" button. Then press down once and select " System Setup". Press the up arrow once and select "Start Up Page". It will probably say "On" and have a * next to it. To turn it off, press down and select "Off" by pressing "OK" again. Make sure that the * shows next to "Off" on the display.

I had the same problem, hopefully this will fix it for you :)

3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal.
