You must put your car kit in pairing mode prior to pairing it with your phone. If it has never been paired to another device before, just by turning it on (i.e. pressing and releasing the microphone shaft), it will enter the pairing mode, denoted by the indicator light flashing alternately in red and blue, right away. In case it has been paired before, or, rather, it refuses to enter that mode automatically, you must force it into that mode, by pressing and hold the accept button whist turning it on. Anyway, once in pairing mode, make your phone's bluetooth application search for new devices. After a little while, your car kit should appear on-screen. Select it and make it connect. If a pairing code (or PIN, or passkey, or passcode) is requested, enter '0000' (four zeros).
By the way, detailed instructions on how to pair it with your phone (illustrated with pictures) can be found on its user guide; In case yours happens to be missing, you'll still be able to find it here.

Hope you are able to sort your problems out soon.
Please, let me know if I can help you any further.
Regards,
Carlos

Cannot connect to motorola phone tools using bluetooth

in the phone itself, you have to search for bluetooth devices and accept the found device in order for it to work, once set-up searching is not needed for that device again

Can't get existing bluetooth headset to work with new phone

I had that problem when I changed handsets. You need to:
  1. ensure the bluetooth setting is turned on on the handset
  2. switch on the scala 500
  3. press and hold the scala 500 power button until the red and blue lights are both flashing (you have to hold the button in for quite a few seconds)
  4. now you can search for new bluetooth devices from your handset and it should find it to enable you to connect
