The fan has to be replaced. Make sure it's not the hard drive - are your applications working correctly? To replace the fan, you have to take the laptop apart. I recommend having a shop replace it. It requires disassembly experience to remove and replace.

If it still under warranty send it back. The laptop has to be disassemble. You could do it yourself but you will be taken chance of damaging. You can get the Compaq manual and watch a video
on www.youtube.com On disassembling Laptop. Good luck.

You can order and replace the noisy fan.
It is not difficult to do and requires minimum tools.
Just be sure any dust or debris is removed from heat sink fins, power supply and air vents in the case. Check clearance and dimensions before purchasing the new fan. Just like Goldie locks you want it Just right. Not to big and not too small.
If you blowing the Power supply out with compressed air. (always a dust magnet) Be sure to hold the power supply fan with a wooden dowel or anything to prevent blades from spinning. Be sure to do all this with the power off and unplugged. Compressed air can over rev the power supply fan and damage the bearings. (you'll have another noisy fan within a short time if you don't.)
Good luck hope this helps!

Cooling fans are too loud

Hi.

Sounds like the laptop just needs a right good clean out of dust. Get a can of compressed air and clean the air vents and the fan grill if you have access to it, that should quieten the laptop down. Dust is a common cause of noisy fans.

I have a compaq notebook model CQ61-412NR and i already have the usb fan hooked up under it, but it still keeps getting very hott and shutting down. is it safe to take the cover off the back to clean the...

When the CPU in the computer or laptopoverheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot upagain until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then theCPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

Haloo, my PS3 is behaving very funny lately. System has significantly slowed down, and there are some games not playable prolperly ( FIFA 2010 and PES 2008 ). I have restored the system to default settings...

Dust,Dust,Dust. The number one enemy for the ps3 is dust, i recommend you try these solutions;
  • Take it to Best Buy and have it cleaned for under $100
  • Every two months take a can of compressed air and blow every vent till you empty the can
  • Take the vacuum and hold it on a vent while hitting it with the compressed air that way when its loose in the air it gets sucked out

The cooling fan on my Gateway 506GR has been noisy for several months. Now it "groans" every few minutes, but continues to run.

Have you cleaned all dust from the fan and inside the computer? If not disconnect all cables from the computer and take the tower outside. Remove the side panel and with a can of compressed air or an air compressor blow all dust from all fans, heat sinks, and all other components. Do not touch anything inside the computer without first grounding yourself to the chassis. If this does not solve your problem the fan needs replacing.

Today i started up my Asus N50V Laptop up and the fan is running continually now, I rebooted it and still no change. It never has done this before?

Hi,

It is normal for the fan to kick in to cool the processor, but it sounds to me like the CPU fan and the air vents need a good cleaning.

Noisy fans and them running for a length of time means that its having to be on more to keep the processor cool.
Other causes of the fan being loud and on constantly is gaming and heavy programs. The more the processor has to work the hotter it will get, thus the fan being on all the time.

Have a look at your air vents and the CPU fan for dust. If you see any dust then you will need a can of compressed air to blast through the vents and CPU fan blades free of dust.

Removing the dust from the machine usually quietens them down.

Preasrio CPU fan is noisy and goes on A LOT

It's not your ram. What it means is that the system probably has inhaled too much household dust and is having trouble breathing. That is not a joke. The system has fans, and the fans are responsible for moving fresh air and unfortunately dust into the enclosure, and exhausting the heat. If the air is choked off, the heat builds up. If it gets to the point that the fan runs constant, the processor will slow down to compensate and avoid further overheating. That will make the computer slow. If you feel handy, you might get yourself one of those cans of compressed inert gas they sell at the major chains, unplug the computer and take it outdoors, remove the cover, and commence to cloudmaking. If you don't feel like that is for you, you can take it to a servicer, but it's gonna cost you a little more.

Noisy fans laptop overheating?

Try using Compressed Air in a can by the vents. I would not recommend taking apart the laptop.
