Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Mitsubishi 65 inch projection tv Model number WS 65511 it says MFG Oct 2002 120V, 60HZ, 275W, The green power light comes on for 3 seconds then turns off. I can hear a click nothing powers up no picture or sound. I hold the menu and device and I'm not to sure of the code. It looks like it blinks once then two real fast ones then a pause then it dose it again. It almost looks like three blinks but it kind of looks like the second two are a little faster than the first one. If I check the code again with out unpluging it I get the two - two blinks. But if I unplug it to reset it I get the three in a row or what almost looks like the one then two fast ones. Can you tell me what this is and can you send me instructions on how to get into it to fix it. Reading on your sight it says to go in through the front to get the power button moduel out. There is no access for it in the front on this set. Unless I maybe take the top half of the TV apart. Please let me know or reply to slamnnn@cox.net Samuel S. Simms

Do you have a picture of the board? Do you remove the board from the back or front of hte set? I did unplug the two wires to the front power panel and tried the remote and nothing happened.

  • slamnnn1 Nov 15, 2010

I did remove the front screen to get to the circuit board of the power buttons. Is that whare the caps are? on that board? Or are you talking about it being someplace else? Because when I unpluged it nothing changed I can hear a click but nothing powers up.

  • slamnnn1 Nov 17, 2010

I have also seen on this sight & tvrepairworld suggested that it might be 2,2 error code is short protection---98% of the time it means one of the two soldered in pico fuses this set uses is blown----there are several---but your problem means if it is ws-65809 one of the two stk-392-570 convergence chips has failed.

Could this be the problem also? What should I try first the Cap? None of them are swollen but I know that don't mean one or more could be bad.

I'm not sure whare the Convergence board is to look at any thing there.

  • slamnnn1 Nov 17, 2010

I don't have the green blinking light. The green light comes on for 3 seconds then goes out. I will try the caps but just to make sure I'm looking at the right ones on the DM Power board there is only 7 of one kind but mine say 1000uf 16V Jamicon Not 1000uf 25V. Do you still want me to get the 1000uf 35V? Is there any heat rateing I should look for?

  • slamnnn1 Nov 18, 2010

Before I didn't have the green flashing light. it would come on for 3 seconds then go off. I just replaced all 7 of the capacitors. when I pluged the set in I got the green flashing light. after that I checked the code and got the 2-2 then the set goes off.

I posted this on fixya and was told to replace the 7 Capacitors on the DM Power supply board. I just did that now when I plug the set in I get a continues blinking green light & the 2-2 code. What else might be wrong?

  • slamnnn1 Nov 18, 2010

I plug in the TV I get a steady green blinking light when that stops I hold the device & input and get code one pause then two. After that if I push the power button I get the green light for three seconds then it goes out. I then hold the device & input buttons and I get code two pause then two. I just replaced all 7 Caps on the DM Board. If you direct me to another board or place please tell me whare and what I will be looking for. Thanks

  • slamnnn1 Nov 19, 2010

Yes I would like to try the repair I do some electrical work on aircraft so I know to be careful around high voltage items. Is there a way to verfy what is bad before I buy the replacement parts?

  • slamnnn1 Nov 19, 2010

I have the service manual and all ready to go.

  • slamnnn1 Nov 20, 2010

In refference to the Main Components Location in the manual I see three boards PCB Main, PCB Power and PCB Terminal then the DM Box with the DM Power Board. Which one of these is considered the Power supply Board that you want me to check the fuses? I'm guessing the PCB Power Board?

  • slamnnn1 Nov 22, 2010

Sorry I did miss it I could only find 6 fuses on the power board. I found one open it was F9A04. Could one fuse cause this or is it just part of the problem?

  • slamnnn1 Nov 24, 2010

I went to buy the fuse but they said they need to know what the voltage for it is. I can't find what the voltage comming off the transformer through the fuse to the diode. It looks like it comes out of the diode at 24V. But I'm not sure if I'm reading it right. Also from what I have read to brush up on my long past electrical schooling most say I can't test the resistors on the board with a digital multimeter, Which is all I have. They suggest to remove one end or a special low voltage meter.

  • slamnnn1 Dec 02, 2010

I put in a new fuse when I turn the TV on it blinks constantly then goes out. After that I push the power button the light comes on and it clicks for 3 seconds then goes off. It won't give me a code when I push the buttons.

Did you try the error code operational check? If not then Try this
1)Unplug the set and plug it back in
2)Press and hold the "MENU" and "DEVICE/INPUT" buttons for 5 seconds. The LED at the front will flash a certain number of times(say x) a short pause and another series of blinks(say y). Get me the values of x and y and I will tell you what the problem is.
This is definitely a protection fault but there are lots of components in the set that can cause it. So we need to find that before I can tell you how to fix it.

I can tell you for sure that this is not a capacitor related problem. Error code "22" means X-ray protect circuit related problem. Now that is one risky repair. I am talking about 29.5K volts. Are you sure you wanna do it yourself? I have the schematic and can direct you to the problem, but just a little concerned about the fact that this is high voltage circuit.

Sorry. I made a small mistake. 22 means short protect circuit related problem(21 means X-ray protect. Really sorry about thAT). Anyways coming back to the problem something is causing a short on PCB power. For starters, I would like you to test all the fuses on the power supply board and check if any of them are open

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Yes it is PCB power. I have mentioned it in my last post "short on the PCB power". Didn't you see?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 22, 2010

It can cause it. An open circuit cuts off power on an entire line. I would first replace that and see if the problem is resolved. Also test the surrounding resistors to see if any of them are blown, which may have caused the fuse to fail in the first place.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 24, 2010

We can look it up in the service manual. Please get me the location on the board(ex:FB90) and I will get you the specs.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Dec 03, 2010

The clicks you have specified are the relay circuits turning the tv off. We have to try and find the faulty component most likely to be in the main power supply circuit. In the service manual see the schematic for the board "PCB power" . First up run a continuity test on all components other than the capacitors , resistors and coils and see if you detect a short.

Remove the bottom Panel it just Pulls Off then you should be able to remover the Front Panel board that has power /vol-,vol+, ch-,ch+ buttons on it unplug board then wait 70secs,try turing TV on with remote handunit if set come on then problem is the contact switches on board or just replace the whole board. If this does not fix it then their is 5 capacitors on the DM moduel that needs to be replaced they are 1000uf 25v use 35v caps.

DM Board is a Big Aluimim looking box ,should be over on left hand side of Chassis ,You will have to remove the back off of the tv, Pull the Big Alummium box out and open it their you will see the Capacitors that you need to change out.

2001 Mitsubishi 65 inch HD1080 rear projection. When I turn it on, green light comes on for 2 seconds then it turns itself off. No flashing green light like others I read about.

Ok, try this first. After attempting to turn on set after it shuts off push and hold the MENU and INPUT buttons at the same time on the front of the set for 10 seconds. This should acccuate the self diagnostics function in the micro and the power LED should start blinking a two sequence code. That code will narrow things down.

I have had my WS-65511 fail like this, first at 4 years, second 2 weeks later, then 3rd time yesterday (4/14/2009). In past, the tech replaced a thermal sensor p/n 299P313010A (but Mitsubishi says that part is not for WS-65511 and that it does not have a thermal sensor - go figure). It is a white rectangle with about 30 pins in 2 rows and is soldered onto a board in the TV. List price is about $25.
