Question about Dell 2135cn All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Our Dell 2135cn Laser Printer/Copier/Fax constantly leaks yellow toner on the right side of a copy. We used to use refurbished toner cartridges and have switched to OEM toner cartridges. We had the machine cleaned by a local repairman. Still spreads toner on the right side of a copy. Any suggestions?

Leaked toner on inside of printer badly. Should I blow it out with compressed air, or call it in under warranty repair?

If under warranty, and you've been Dell recommended toner cartridges, use your warranty.
Dell may tell you to carry out some repair before they do anything.

My Dell 2135cn printer is printing Black when I'm calling for green. The color cartridges are full

If cartridge that has the blue & yellow (combinds for green), is low or out or clogged or defective, printer will automatically print black. Get some hot (almost boiling) water, then take color or all cartridges out of machine, put in container with about 1/4" of the hot water and let set for awhile. Do not put entire cartridge just the bottom where the print heas is located. The take paper towel and gently remove residual water from water. Replace, do print clean cartridge on your printer.

I would suggest you do not use the 3rd party supply, if you solve the problem with the genuine supply, they are are the same, some time it causes lots of problem, and even void the warrenty.

On our dell 2135cn, the magenta will not print. It has a brand new cartridge and read full (the old one was full also and and read full) - but it does not use the magenta - or very little of it, our red is...

Pull out all the toners and look at the drive gear on the problem color. They are located on the right side where the toners slide into the printer. Odds are you have a bad gear in the dispenser assembly. Can't just buy the replacement gear anywhere you have to buy the whole unit and that runs $250.00 to $300

Dell 2135cn only uses about half the toner in the cartridge before it will quit working. How do I fix this?

cindy1929,

Remove the toner cartridge and look at both ends. There should be a clear window on each end for an infared beam to shine through. When full of toner the beam is blocked but apparently you have a sensitive sensor which can detect the beam before the toner is gone. Carefully place a small piece of opaque tape across the window to block the beam. Make sure that the tape is secure and will not fall off inside the printer. This should solve your problem and allow your printer to print until the toner is completely empty.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

I am having print quality issues on a Dell 2135cn MFP - print on the left side of the page is light.

Try removing the toner cartridge and gently rotating it back and forth. Often the toner will bunch up like a snow drift and where there is little toner you'll have light or no print. If that doesn't do the trick try another toner cartridge.

Dell 2135cn black toner prints light grey

The way I resolved the issue is to go to the Printer... literally walk to it (not via Windows or a Driver), Select Menu button on printer->Setup->Admin->Maintenance->Clean Developer. This will clean each toner cartridge or PHD unit, or to stir the toner in a new toner cartridge. Then it started printing solid black again.

It took me hours to resolve this but I hope it helps someone else and spares them the pain.

Dell Laser 5100

Means the Yellow Toner Cartridge is not communicating with the printer. If you've installed a third party yellow toner cartridge, go to the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool to set the toner to non-Dell toner. If it is a Dell cartridge, the procedure is to turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and turn the printer back on.

Brother MFC 8220 all-in-one fax prints with a vertical line

First guess is you have a bit of dirt (often white-out from people scanning corrected paper that's not quite dry) stuck on the fax scan window. This should be described pretty well in your user manual (which you can download online from brother.com).

Its also possible that there is dirt (typically loose toner) on the laser scan window (there's a laser that shines through it to get the image pattern on the drum). That window is often along the bottom of the unit under the drum/cartridge (take the cartridge out and look). The Brother manual I've seen seems to ignore this possibility.

Print streaks DO NOT mean cartridge drum replacement in many cases !! On brother Intellifax or MFC or other laser copier/printer/fax, keep in mind that either the fax/copy scan window OR the laser scan window can get dirty. If the fax scan window is dirty, you see streaks on outgoing faxes and copies (but NOT incoming faxes). If the laser scan window is dirty, you see streaks on all prints (copies, faxes, print-from-computer).

Note also that when transporting/moving some laser copier with the toner cartridge inside, the toner can get out and make a big mess inside (including getting the laser scan window dirty). An air compressor can be usefull to blow it out. And sometimes using alcohol to clean is a BAD idea (maybe incompatible with plastic and rubber parts). A damp rag is probably fine.
