Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Help, a friend got some virus on her machine. I cleaned off the virus but now we get the blue screen. She did not get OS disks with her computer. She is running MS XP Home Ed. SP2. I don't know what to try. I tried to follow the Acer instructions to recover the system but it would not respond. I can't tell you what viruses she had on the computer. We lost the sheet.

Thanks for the info. I have an old Gateway disk with MS Windows XP Home Ed. Do you think I could use that or would it really screw things up? I found out that my friend purchased this computer from the college and they did not give her the OS disks. O well.

Find any "generic" Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM disk.
Use that disk, and the 25-character product-key on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
Then, access ACER's web-site, and download the specific device-drivers that are found
on the ACER-customized Windows disk (which you don't have).

Or, contact ACER, and pay $20 to $40 to purchase a replacement "System Recovery" set of disks.

The computer-store should have provided either a set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks,

or an application installed on the computer that allows you to use your CD-writer to "burn" a set of those "System Recovery Disks", or a (hidden) "Recovery" partition on the disk-drive, that enables you to re-install Windows.

Contact ACER, to purchase that set of disks.

Basically i got a message on my dell dimension 2400 windows xp saying "windows\system32\config\system I was able to get past this... but then the screen went blue and i...

You haven't said what you were doing when you got these messages. Regardless, it could be a virus and because of that, I would do the following:

Obtain a second hard drive to copy to; install it in the same machine. It does not need to be bootable. Download and burn (or have a friend do it for you) a bootable CD that includes NTFS file tools, such as The Ultimate Boot CD or BartPE. Boot from the CD, then use it to copy your important files from old hard drive to new one.

This method is preferable to installing this problem hard drive in another Windoze computer because if it is a virus, you could infect that computer too. If it's your friend's computer, they won't be your friend any more after you do that!

Once you have your files copied, remove the spare hard drive, format the original one (using the same boot CD if you like) and reinstall your operating system.

Help, a friend got some virus on her machine. I cleaned off the virus but now we get the blue screen. She did not get OS disks with her computer. She is running MS XP Home Ed. SP2. I don't know what to...

I don't think the disk you have for the gateway will work due to the fact that is has a different serial number...if you try to load it, there will possibly be an error saying it's the wrong machine. try to boot the computer to safe mode. To accomplish this you need to start the computer as normal...then right after the bios screen(with the comp manufacturer logo) you want to press F8...there you will see a list of options...scroll through them till you get to safe mode and press enter...a screen may pop up telling you that you are running in safe mode, answer yes to this...while in safe mode, you can go to user accounts to see if the virus did something to your password(if you use passwords) and change it back. then you will want to shut it down properly and see if it will then if it won't go to safe mode then the virus probably corrupted your o/s and you will need to reinstall it. As for the operating system disk, you may be able to contact acer to see if they can send you a copy of the o/s disks...oh and also, there may be a partition on the hard drive that contains the recovery sector. Other than may need to start from scratch and wipe the harddrive clean and do a clean install with a new set of o/s discs or a new o/s

I have sony Vaio VGN-CS36GJ - Recently i was trying to restore it to factory settings via Vaio recovery due to virus attach but suddenly it didn't either recovered to factory setting but looks as operating...

I would have recomended Norton Antivirus or a full programme anti virus to clean your drive. However, it is almost too late for repairs.
You need to format your drive but as there seems to be a "Worm" type virus, I guess due to the problems you are having trying to re install OS, it will keep reinfecting the drive due to it being resident in the memory.
You really need an antivirus programme to clean your Sony Vaio before you can succesfully place an uninfected OS on your drive. I hope the recovery partion is not infected as well, a good anti virus programme will clean it though. When it is clean, boot with a system disk with the same OS on it and when you get to drive "C" hopefully drive "D" will be available, assuming "D" is the recovery drive partition.

When you get your anti virus disk, you will need it to be a bootable disk with the format command on it. When it has been cleaned you can then format the disk and put your recovery OS disk back on.
Hope this helps.

I have a Acer laptop and it has the blue screen death how can i repair it.

it depends on what the screen says. If you don't mind losing what you have in the computer, boot up with an OS disk, wipe the HD clean and install the OS from scratch.
If you want to try to save what you have in your computer, boot up from the OS disk and choose "repair" from the disk menu

AC'97 Audio Codecs Blue screen of death on install please help me fix this problem thanks dell dimension 2350

This usually means your HD has a virus. It could be a boot virus. The best way to get rid of it is to completely reinstall your OS. When you turn on your computer put in your OS software or recovery software (if software recovery does not work you will have to put on new version of OS from another disk). After you put the disk in, restart your computer and hit Enter when the screen prompts to Boot from CD...
If this does not work, you can purchase a anti-boot virus software from your local comp store, otherwise you may need a new HD. But try reinstalling the OS from scratch, that is the best way.

If you can get a windows 98 disk just to format the drive you can reinstall without any problem .the thing is that if you do a clean install the drive needs to be complely clean of the os so if you start with win 98 than win you install your system disk you should have no problem the thing is when you do a reinstall some time the drive is not wiped clean just reinstalled over and you still have the same problem soo try to find win 98 or have someone make you a boot disk it will contain fdisk which is a disk format utility than install you restore disk this should work good luck let me know what happens
