Question about Neff H5642 Convection / Microwave Oven

Open Question

NEFF H5642SOGB/04 was completely dead. It's fairly new although ex demo so no warrenty. I opened it up and found the lamp blown and the internal 10 amp fuse gone. I have since replaced the fuse (I am awaiting replacement lamp) and now when I power it up the fan just runs constant, but no display working or able to operate in any other way. Any thoughts?

SOURCE: Neff combi blown diode.

If the diode failed by opening, there may be no other damage. If the dioded failed by shorting, the alternating current may have damaged other components. Ohm it out. You can get diodes from digikey.com, mouser.com, or radio shack or any electronics or appliance supply. If the diode is charred and you can't get the part number, the oven rating can be used to select a replacement. Since the fuse was 10 amps, the diode should also handle at least 10 amps. If you can power the unit and read the voltage at the diode input this will give you the power (volts times amps). It's always worth trying as it's cheaper than replacing the unit.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

Mirowave wont start

I assume from your description that you can set power and time but nothing kicks in when you press start?? This could be a control panel fault but may be a problem with the door lock/switches. Check that the spring on the door hooks is ok, just lift it up and check it returns to down position by itself. If the microswitches do not make properly when the door is closed the m/w will not start because it assumes the door is open. A microwave (even when switched off) can be storing a high voltage so unless you are trained I would suggest you get an expert to take a look. BSH is Neff service division 0844 872 8999, they offer a one off repair plan, which covers your first repair and then any further repairs for a year. You can pay monthly by DD to spread the cost. (This may be age related so as yours m/w is nearly 10years old, it may not be eligible).
Hope this helps.

Light does not work

Replacement of the lamp should be carried out by a qualified appliance repair service.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT!

Attempt this only if you are competent.

But here is a basic method if you are mechanically minded and have electrical safety knowledge.

The lamp is sat in a housing and its position is adjacent to the vent holes that it shines through.
If you feel confident, disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity.
Remove the microwave cover. Purchasing a new replacement lamp will be useful as it will give you an idea of what it looks like. Locate the dead lamp remove the lamp and fit the new one. Replace the covers. Plug it back in and try the lamp by opening the door.
Hope this helps.

Neff h5642 doesn't start at all. No lights, no display. What should I check first?

safety fuse (internal) will have blown usually caused by faulty inverter short circuit if fuse changed and blows again this is what it will be costly repair if out of guarantee.

Microwave wont run, displays E 10 on the screen and also microwave fault, press stop to acknowledge, just changed the door.

e 10 is the internal safety fuse has blown this often happens if door is altered for any reason moving the door can effect the setting of the monitor switches these are set to a high tolerance to avoid operation of microwave with door open changing the door has shifted these settings and blown the fuse, replacing the fuse may be enough to get it going but it should be checked for leakage.

Neff combination microwave oven

We have had NEFF repair man out again and he replaced the door switchs and this time it is OK.He did say if it was a problem again it will be classed as unrepairable because he thinks it is shorting out on an internal rivet on the bodywork which is inaccesable. fingers crossed it was the door switchs and it dosent blow the main fuse again .thanks for your responce. Simon.

H5470 built in microwave

sound like the door monitor switched has blown or shifted out of position if the switches dont operate in tandem when door is opened or closed it will blow the 10 amp fuse and kill the display they will need to be checked by engineer if it is monitor switch they are not expensive to replace.

Complete Shut-Down

I woulds first suspect a blown internal fuse or a thermal cutout on the magnetron in your case, but a microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for just a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open. When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power on again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
