How many terminals does the component have? Is it visibly burned and blackened? If it is, you should check any semiconductors (diodes, transistors, ICs) connected to it for short circuits. "PL" is not a common component designator, so don't feel bad about not knowing what it is. I'm checking with a friend who once worked for Gateway's service dept., but my guess is it's a coil (L) in the power management section (P). If I'm right, you may also have a fried switching transistor or diode "upstream" of the part, and something powered through this coil is also shorted (the original failed part). I could make a better guess if I could see it for myself. Do you have the capability to send or post photos on-line?

we call that a bad board... you dont get to replace components on an appliance control board. just look for the least expensive place to buy a new board and order it.

In onida ky thunder strf6654 getting burn, fuse blown when also change of str.????

Check all the associated components at the power supply regulator section circuit; especially check the zener diode/s. Replace them. Replace the STR only after replacing these components. There is a chance to these components too can damage, when the original STR has burned out by any reason. If you wish to get more, about the schematic diagram; check the site linked here. Type in the number of STR in its search box, or Pull up previous posts, either by type in the Brand name to your set in its search box, or view it in Mosaic / Timeslide / Flipcard option. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

My Power Supply Burnt Out Can I Get It Repaired?

A power supply can't be repaired. The replacement cost is probably about what a repair would run anyway,or less.
Pick up a new one,and you also pick up a new warranty.

A chip on the circuit board started smoking

The component sounds like a resistor, and the fact that it was attached to a heat sink means its a power handling resistor. You said it was burning, so this means that whatever it is attached to is drawing too much current. From what you are saying a component on a board is drawing too much current and is causing another component (the 1 ohm resistor) to burn. My question is what board is this (I am suspecting the deflection or the HV power supply). Please post a picture of the board in question. That way I have a visual guide as to the board and if I can find the schematic, or if you can supply the schematic I'll be able to at least give a better diagnosis of this problem.

Thank you,
