Question about Canon PIXMA MP150 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Dear Adviser The Canon cartridges for my Pixma MP140 printer have run out of ink as indicated both on the printer by the E4 signal and on the computer by a pop up window when trying to print a document. I decided to refill both cartridges using a refill kit supplied specifically for Canon cartridges. The refilled cartridges were reinserted into the printer and after switching on the printer the E4 signal reappeared. Hence the printer was not recognising that the cartridges had been refilled. I was advised to Google ?Chip reset for Canon cartridges?, the objective of which is to reset the chip on the cartridge which reads the ink level in the cartridge. I came across the Maynard method which I applied but only got as far as step 4, at which point the fault light starting flashing and I could not get beyond that step. I got the impression from the description of the Maynard method that one starts with nearly empty cartridges to reset the chip(s). After the resetting process the cartridges are removed then refilled (Step 10) and after reinsertion, the printer should recognise that the cartridges are full. However I am BEGINNING with refilled cartridges. Does anyone know a procedure for resetting the chips where we are beginning with a refilled cartridge?

Hello, the printer Canon Pixma MP140 has cartridges with no chips. The printer reads the serial from the cartridge and tells you an estimated ink level. My recomandation is to press the resume/cancel buton for at least 10 seconds, that being the method to cancel the ink counter. After you press the resume/cancel buton you will be able to print, scan and copyas you did before.
The only disadvantage is that your printer will never show the ink level for this set of refilled cartridges, but it will work as well as brand new cartridges.

    If E5 is the error you will have to replace the color cartridge.

    Changed many times. This Printer is a ****.Something has happend with Canon.All products i have, ended Contract ca. after Year.
    My MP 140 can recognise 1 Cartridge.No matter,Color or Black.If I insert both ,appears E5.
    It seems like some Electronic problem inside.

Canon PIXMA MP140 - c light flashing


This means you are getting low on color ink. You can continue printing for a while, but eventually you will get an error message (E,4) indicating that the ink has run out. Purchase, or have ready, a new color ink cartridge.

MP140 can't recognise the black cartridge that I've just installed. Error code 4 - any ideas? I've tried the manual - nothing, and not much luck online - Thanks


Error code 4 normally indicates that there is no unk, and the solution is by installing a genuine cartridge, Try to use Black PG40 remanufactured Canon printer ink cartridge. This cartridge is a high capacity cartridge which has been filled with 23ml of ink compared with the 16ml (Black) that you get with the originals. Compatible with: Canon Pixma MP140. if this error still occur it is better that you try the following procedure below:-

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP140 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. You should also be prompted, asking if you wish to disable ink level detecting. Agree to do so, and you won’t get the warnings again because the ink levels won’t be monitored by the printer.

E4 is a ink empty error.There is a memory in the cartridges and printer still recognize it like empty.You need to turn off the function on printer to show the ink level.Push and keep the "resume"button for 5 seconds.

The error code E4 indicates that ur printer is low on black ink if ur getting this error error code then u need to replace the blak ink cartridge. Hope this solution will solve ur prob

Issue: ERROR LED: E, 4
Solution: Press and hold Stop/Reset button for at least five seconds.
Clearing the Ink Error If you want to continue printing in this condition, press and hold the <Stop/Reset> button on the printer for at least five seconds, and then release it. Replace the ink cartridge and close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover).
If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the Stop/Reset button for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition.
The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled.
Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing. The resulting print quality is not satisfactory, if printing is continued under the ink out condition.
