Question about Astoria Argenta SAE-2 Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Our espresso machine is making a strange noise. I guess to best describe it, it sounds like its steaming water when we aren't using it. The sound is continuous.

It could be a leaking valve. If it's on top of the boiler it's most likely the antieddie pressure valve and they run arond $18.

When I turn on the steam valve, nor hot water nor steam comes out (not one drop), it doesn't make it to the nozzle and instead it goes directly to the drip tray. Coffees dispense works...

Hi, sounds like either you have a blocked or fauly solenoid, or micro switch or the water inlet side of the boiler is bocked. This is easy to fix. You need to be able to get to the inlet on the boiler, undo the water line and drill it out using a 3mm drill bit. Dazza

Why does the coffee maker make a loud noise right before it brews the coffee?

Usually this is the expansion of steam as the heating element quickly rises to the preset temperature. This process heats the water to the correct temperature and causes the water to flow upward from the water reservoir. Then out the brewing spout over the coffee grounds.

It will usually make strange noises at the end of this cycle too.
The water is used up and remaining steam is vented.
Sounds more like a burping and last minute gurgle really. :)

Hope this helps!

Need an FF! X3 portafilter - anyone have one?

If you want to make espresso with loose coffee (as opposed to pods), You will need both a portafilter plus the special tamper. Believe it or not, the tamper comes apart and part of it stays in the portafilter! Sounds strange I know, but it works well. The tamper is bakelite with a metal screen. You will probably have to call Empire Fulfillement 877.854.4141 or ffservice@illyusa.net

Water coming out of steam nozzle not coffee output when making coffee

Sounds to me there might be a blockage on the brew unit, and since the pressure is so high it is going through the bypass. Clean the screen and tubes on the brew unit.

Extremely loud squealing noise during steaming milk

This could be blocked. The best way to clear this is to switch off the machine and see if you can dismantle the frother arm. Sometimes the arm will come off by unscrewing. If it does, wash it in hot water and washing liquid. If it doesn't come off try putting the frother wand into a mug of cold water and allow it just to steam the water.
Frother wands don't just steam liquids - they **** up liquid which can block the vents and the actual steam hole which this machines' problem sounds like it does have.

Sealing in the cofee machine

Hi,

You have to replace the steam valve, make sure you get one in metal.

Sometimes there will be a strange sound from the brewunit, make sure the filter in brew unit fits tight, if not you get a noisy sound from it.

Check also the hole in chassis behind the brew unit and make sure that is clean.
