Ihave 1/2"tape I wannt to use as my source. How do I do that?

I assume you have reel to reel 1/2 inch audio tape.
You will have to find a tape machine that uses the same size, format and speed as the 1/2 inch tape was recorded at in order to play it back (Presumably, you will record it into a DAW or computer digital audio format for future use?).
This tape could be a multi-track in a format specific to the original machine it was recorded on, it could be digital audio on reel to reel tape, it could be many different formats.
What do you know about the tape, how, when, and on what equipment it was recorded?

I have a samsung scd103 digital cam and when i record something it looks good on the screen while im recording it but when i play it back there are grey lines and distorted sound

Have you tried cleaning the recording heads? Use a dry type cassette cleaner only. It's just like a vcr head cleaner tape, only in the small mini-dv tape size.

DSR 11 won't record DV tape to its end

You need to use longer tapes. The DER-11 is a DVCAM deck which when recording, uses a faster tape speed then mini DV. Think of your older VCR's. They had SP, two hours, and EP or SLP, which would be six hours. The SP speed would give a better picture. DVCAM is more like an SP recording except digital and a lot better. More information is laid down on the tape.

You'll have to jump up to the full size DVCAM tapes in order to record the full hour.

CONNECTING TAPE RECORDER

I assume you want to record from a tape recorder/player. If not, leave a message, but it will be a similar cable and connection.

If your tape recorder has a headphone jack, you can connect it to your sound card with a special cable. The headphone connectors are sometimes different sizes. It could be either a 1/8 inch, 2.5 mm or 3.5 mm plug. Your local electronics supply store (Radio Shack?) should have the cable you need. (I'd take your tape recorder with you, if possible.)

DVC recorder

The physical tapes are the same size, but the encoding on the tapes are different. Unless the panasonic recorder can play DVcam, you're out of luck.
