Smell coming from AWN32 speed queen top loading washer

All washing machine "smell" when the lid is left closed for more than one day. If it is really bad it might be something inside the body of the machine or something caught under the agitator.
Inside the body work. Unscrew the three screws at the bottom of the front panel. Lift the bottom of the panel forward and up. Remove. Make sure the machine is unplugged and switched off before reaching into the body work. Look for something "smelly"
Agitator - switch off and unplug - depending on the model unscrew the top cap on the agitator. Some models do not have an screw cap although it might look so. Reach with both hands into the machine and grab the agitator at it bottom flanges hands opposite each other. Pull up hard - it does not let go easily- make sure it doesn't have a top screw cap. To replace just push back until it clicks or replace and tighten the top cap.

Hello,

There's never a good time for the washer to stop working correctly. If a washing machine's agitator isn't working properly, your clothes won't come clean.

The back-and-forth movement of the agitator is a main function in the cleaning process of your laundry.

If your agitator isn't working, it could be the agitator itself or broken splines in the assembly beneath the agitator. Either one is a relatively easy and inexpensive repair that you should be able to do yourself.

Instructions and material needed :Socket wrench,Rope,Broom,Replacement parts

  1. Inspect the agitator for breaks. If the agitator is broken or cracked, you'll need to replace it. A broken agitator won't operate correctly, if at all. If the agitator looks fine but isn't moving, you'll need to inspect the plastic splines in the agitator assembly located underneath the agitator.
  2. Remove the agitator from the washing machine by first removing the fabric softener dispenser cap on top of it. This cap should either pull or screw off. It it's difficult to remove, you might have to pry it off.
  3. Unscrew the bolt beneath the softener cap with a socket wrench. Once you've removed the screw, try lifting the agitator out of the washer. If it doesn't easily lift out, loop a rope underneath one side of the agitator and over a broom handle. Continue looping the rope under the other side of the agitator and back over the broom. Using caution not to hit yourself in the head, pull up on the broom until the agitator comes loose.
  4. Replace the broken agitator with a new one. Snap the new one in place and secure the bolt underneath the fabric softener cap. Place the cap back on the agitator and you're ready to start washing.
  5. fix-washing-machine-agitator-1.5-120x120.jpg
Check the plastic splines in the assembly directly underneath the agitator, if the agitator itself isn't broken. If the plastic splines are broken or worn down, this will keep the agitator from properly moving. In fact, it might not move at all. Replace the spline assembly with a new one and reassemble the agitator by reversing your steps to remove it.
Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

Agitator is loose

Does the plastic cap unscrew (CCW)? If you get it off, there is a plastic block attached to the top of the shaft that should just pull off. Check it for cracking or splines that are torn out inside--replace it if damaged. Make sure the cap screws down tight.

Kenmore heavy duty 70 series agitator is slipping and won't agitate fully.

pop the top off the agitator and remove the bolt holding this on. pull sharply on the agitator from the bottom, as this may be a li'l tough, careful you don't hit your face with it on removal.

Under this is a retainer with three 'dogs' on it. Replace these with new available at appliance parts store in your area. When placing back into the agitator, you need to be sure they don't fall out, so place the retainer on the handle end of a long screw driver or the like, the place the agitator over the top. Reinstall agitator and top and it should work.
Best luck to you on your repair

My agitator top spins freely in both directions. I beleive the directional cams need to be replaced. I have been able to remove the entire agitator, but can't get the top half off to access the cams....

i take it this is a whirlpool brand, simply pop the top off the agitator look down you will see a 7/16" screw remove it and either the whole agitator will rise or half of it (kinda tug) now if only half of the agitator came out on this model you can get to what you need if the whole agitator came out then step on the bottom of the agitator and tug hard... there you will have what you need... if you need help or confused go to my site and call me- mark - whirlpoolpartssurplus.com

Washer won't agitate, fills with water, makes no noise

hi there,
we have several parts to check :

Here are some initial steps to help you diagnose and fix washer problems.

follow this procedure

Make sure the washer is receiving power. Check the cord, the plug, and the outlet. If a wall switch controls the outlet, make sure the switch is working. Look for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers at the main entrance panel. If the unit is receiving power and still won't run, press the reset button on the control panel (if the washer has one).
Make sure the control knob is properly set to the ON position and the door is tightly closed. Check the latch to make sure it's free of lint and soap buildup.
plug on and try to switch on,if still not agitate, your agitator

is directly coupled to motor and has wiring and sensor connection.
on the back cover, open and check the capacitor of motor, you need
tools such as tester, screw driver amd mostly techncal on electrical
knowledge, this should be done by service technician where you buy your stuff.have a nice day.rate me if your satisfied to my suggestion.thank's a lot.

GE washer approx8 yrs old

Slip a belt or rope under the agitator and attach both ends to a thick handle, rod, or pipe. Yank up hard. Agitator should come right off. Remove the plastic upside down can shaped agitator drive spline, which is held on by one bolt. It should come right off, but sometimes you have to crack the plastic to remove them. If you cannot turn the small grooved metal shaft (that you can now see) with your fingers that's good, you can just replace the agitator drive with a new one, replace the agitator, and you are set to go. If you can turn the metal grooved shaft with your fingers, you are basically screwed, as you would need to replace the transmission. (which is not really cost effective on your out of warranty low end washer)

Loose agitator Maytag LAT2600AAE

Look toward the bottom end of the agitator. There should be a small indentation where a 10mm screw is. This screw holds the agitator the the transmission shaft. Sometimes the screw works loose and needs to be tightened.
