How to change a belt tensioner

most bvelt tensioners are bolted on with one or two bolts.use a serpentine belt tool to move the tensioer to remove the belt. remove the bolts holding down the tensioner and replace it.then move the tensioner, and if it has a set of lock holes, insert an allen key to keep it locked ,and replace the belt.once the belt is loaded properly, move the tensioner, remove the allen key and gently let it back and check that the belt is on proper.some cars require removal of a motor mount and lifting of the engine to get at the tensioner.

How do you assure proper tension on the serpentine belt after replacing the alternator?

try to turn the pulley with your hand or a wrench, if you cant turn it, its tight enough. If it has a Automatic Tensioer, then it should be OK, if the tensioner goes its full travel smoothly.

Looking for an overview of changing power steering belt

Remove the 14mm bolt securing the alternator tensioner to the alternator. Then take the tensioner off and use a prybar to slide the alternator back enough to take off the belt. Then loosen the 14mm p/s tensioer bolt. slide the pump back and change the belt.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Good luck.
