Lost my instruction manual, can't text, ans phone number vanished.

Press and hold the home key. Find the text icon press and hold then drag back to the main screen.

You can find information on all versions at the Android.com website and in google play you can get Android quick start guide, Android 4.4 (KitKat): US English version EBook and its free.
Or go to the manufacturer and get the user manual for a phone with 4.4.2

As far as I know there is no forwarding of text messages.

You might be able to go into the text message and long press on the text in question to copy it. You may need to highlight the text before you select copy too. Than start a new text and do a long press in the text box and select paste. I no longer have an iPhone but this does work on my Android phone.

My wife's 9360 just did the same thing, the message icon vanished. I took the battery out for ten seconds and that fixed it. Hope this helps. Jim

i think ur message service centre number have vanished . call to custamer care get the message service centre number and type that number in message settings then it may work. and sorry for my english

You enter a phone number which you would like to be contacted through in the event your phone is lost or stolen. You can also include a message.

When your sim is removed from the phone and replaced with the 'finders' sim your mobile will automatically send a text message with the wording you have inputed to your chosen number. This wll include the phone number of the sim which is now being used in your missing handet,

This means you have a contact number for the person who is in possession of your phone
