Singer sewing machine

My singer sewing machine is sewing very loose stitches. I have tried adjusting the tension with no luck and my manual has very little for troubleshooting help. The top thread is also getting wrapped around the spool pin under the spool of thread while sewing and breaking. It has gotten to the point that I am unable to sew at all. Any ideas???

Thanks for your thoughts, after contacting singer it ended up being simple, I needed to use a smaller needle for the fabric I was using. I knew it had to be something silly like that. SO FAR, it seems to be working properly, the machine is new, only been used a few times so I HOPE I won't have to retime it. (I wouldn't know how to do that anyhow). Thanks for your help!

SOURCE: problem with singer prelude sewing machine!

Firstly make sure when you thread the machine you have the sewing foot in the up position or the thread will not sit in the tension and cause this problem. Also as it is a new machine it may have a small amount of oil from transport stopping the tension discs from separating. Try sliding the folded edge of a piece of fabric with the foot up through the tension unit it may clear the oil away.

SOURCE: thread tension

I have had this problem when the bobbin was wound wrong and also when the machine was improperly threaded. Check your manual to make sure you hit all the threading points, but I think the most common one i've missed that caused this was the metal loop you thread immediately before threading the needle.

I'm having problems with the stitches. The top looks fine while I'm sewing, but when I turn if over the stitches look loose. I've double checked multiple times that the machine is threaded correctly. ...

this is a Cotton tension problem either you have threaded it correctly if so then the tension wants adjusting, also check the tension on your shuttle by doing a drop test by holding the cotton tail that come from your shuttle if you jerk nit up and down the cotton that runs through the tension spring and it should just slip a little bit if it drops down to the floor then the centre small screw needs to be turned a little bit at a time to get the required tension as stated above, but don't worry your sewing m/c is ok, It's as I say a cotton tension problem.

good luck

Featherweight 132Q Singer sewing machine. The top thread is loose. How do I fix that?

try adjusting the top thread tension to a lower number,,like if the machine tension is on 2 then take the tension up to 3 & if that doesn't give the correct tension go to 4 & see if that tension is good for the correct stitch

When making a straight stitch or Zigzag stitch, makes loops underneath the fabric This is for a Singer sewing machine model 5817c

Your top tensioner is too loose.make sure the thread runs through all the relevant eyes and then tighten the top tension little by little as you do a sample few stitches.

Singer 221-1 stitching is good on bottom but not on top

pucker is caused by too loose or, to tight adjustment of: the thread tensioners both the bobbin tensioner and, the needle tensioner need to be adjusted: to adjust the needle tensioner turn the side knob clockwise is tighter counterclockwise loosens; the bobbin tensioner is a tiny screw on the bobbin holder adjust both tensioners until your stich loops' both top and, bottom are tight but, the machine does not break the thread
