First for you to know if you really need to upgrade Select "Ctrl + Alt + Del.

It will display the Task Manager. Then click "Performance"

Just check the CPU usage.

Go back and do your normal job. Run programmes as you used to do, work as you use too.

Then check the Task Manager again if it goes anywhere near 90%- 100% you will need to upgrade.

Go back to your "Desktop" and Right Click the "My Computer" Icon and click "Properties".

From there you will see the type of Processor you have on your PC, its capacity and the RAM as well.

Processor: Intel Celeron, Pentium, AMD: Athlon, Sempron........

Don't just go and buy any Processor or else it may not be able to serve the purpose you needed.

You have to inquire to know the right Processor to upgrade with.

After then, you are good to go and buy the specified processor and fix.

My first bet would be to download the belarc advisor ( Google it) it's free and it would tell you what you want to know about your pc.

Secondly, then go to the manufacturer's website for your motherboard. There you should be able to find information as to the upgrade path that your motherboard and your BIOS in particular can support.

Finally, remember Google is your friend. You can get alot of info that way.

Good luck, and I hope you find what you need. It may take a little bit of digging, but the knowledge you gain will be well worth it.

The AMD xp1500 processor is slow. Its need to be faster than it is. Need to know. Cheers!

If your computer has less than 512MB of RAM, then that is one "bottle-neck" that hurts your computer's overall performance.
Consider adding 512MB or 1024MB of RAM.

Or, your motherboard probably will accept other AMD processors in the "Athlon XP" line. Take your computer to a computer-store, and see if they can sell you a '2600+' or '2800+' AMD CPU that will be compatible with your motherboard. That upgrade will make your CPU almost _twice_ its current speed.

Compatible upgrade processor for intel pentium

The E5200 would be a nice upgrade. It retails on Newegg.com for 65-69.00 and usually has free shipping. And if you have a compatible motherboard and purchase a nice heatsink, it overclocks very nicely.

BAD MOTHERBOARD ECS MCP61P-AM Motherboard

You can. Just make sure it's compatible with the same processor, RAM etc...or it may cost you more in the long run.
You can bring that spec into the local computer store, ask them to just either replace or upgrade...make sure you tell them you'd like to use the same processor, RAM etc.
I hope that helps.

Can i up grade my processer on my dell dimension 5150 desktop computer and if so how big of a processer can i upgrade and is it easy to install.

Good morning! Yes, you can upgrade the processor of your computer but it will depend on the compatibility & support criteria of your computer motherboard, I suggest to check/review the product/operations manual of your computer motherboard which will inform us the details of specification requirements of processor that your computer motherboard will support & compatible with. Installation of processor is easy but with caution just follow the steps procedures written on its enclosed product manual, then make sure to install it with a good CPU FAN that will control its heat temperature. best regards.

Processor upgrade

Dear Friend..

Yes, You can upgrade your system with a new Intel Pentium® 4 processor 2.8 GHz, 533 FSB , but only with the BIOS update. Make sure you have the bios version P06 or greater. See the link below:

http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845grg/sb/cs-009954.htm.

If a get a new processor as above, do not forget to update your bios with the the utility available on intel's site.

I am sure, this helps you. For any additional help, you can ask me..

Problem with upgrading processor

Sounds like the processor you're trying to upgrade to isn't the same frequency. The processor, motherboard, and memory have a matched frequency. For example; a motherboard with a frequency of say PC4200 will only accept a processor and memory of a PC4200 frequency. If you try to use PC5300 memory it basically won't do anything, blank screen, or maybe a beep. The same if you tried to use a processor with PC5300 on the PC4200 board. The best way to find the frequency rating is to look on the memory. They class the memory by frequency, but rarely ever list the frequency for the board or processor. Research the new processor to find out the memory class and then see if it matches the memory in your machine. If it doesn't then the processor won't work. If it does, then new processor may not be compatible, and that means more research.

Compatibility

A8V-MXs are built for AMD processors. You will need a board made for Intel processors if you want to purchase the above processor. If you want to stick with Intel and Asus check out the P5 series of boards. If not, buy an AMD chip...I've had AMD in almost every one of my computers, laptops and desktops.

Good luck.
