Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Cant load photos onto computer , when i connect the usb cable to computer the screen on camera says switch on menu but when i do that it still doesnt upload the pics on to computer , i have a sony cyber...

There are several causes and possible fixes here, I will enumerate them from simplest to most complicated.

1.check your camera settings if you inadvertently changed the camera mode when hooked up to a pc.

2. check your USB cable. Clean the ends and make sure they are shiny.USB cable ends where the connector had a thin film over it which was enough to make for a flaky connection.

3. A software issue could be causing it too, download the latest drivers / software from the Sony site and uninstall completely the old drivers and software then install the new one.

4. After trying all of the above and it still does the same thing, I suggest getting on the phone with either Microsoft or Sony as this might be a know incompatibility.
In the meantime, you might want to consider buying a card reader to be able to download your files and to serve as a backup for those times when you cannot download directly from the camera..

USB connecting problem

Are you talking about when you connect the camera to the computer the viewfinder is blank? It should say "USB Mode Mass Storage" on the View finder. Should pop up on your computer. If not unplug it from the computer and shutoff camera, then restart computer. Then connect everything again. If not, I would then start by reinstalling the software. I really don't get your ?. You can't get to a menu when connected to the computer. It is just use to transfer pictures/video from your camera to computer if you don't have a Memory Stick Pro Duo slot on your computer.

USB Mode -- another connecting problem

It looks like the memory card for your Sony camera formatted in either FAT or FAT32 which is readable by windows computers.

If you attempt to use the format feature on your Mac, you will destroy the card

I found an online manual for your camera. Page 84 talks about the USB Mode Normal with the 4 dots underneath. It also show a troubleshooting area for this and it is on page 96. Hopefully this will get your camera working right again. Here is the link to the pdf manual. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCW1.pdf
