Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Macbook Pro with OS 10.6.4 and a Canon Pixma MP500 scanner/printer. I cannot get the MP500 to scan, although I have downloaded the latest versions of ScanGear, MPNavigator and PrinterDriver on Canons website. I get an error message saying scanner driver will be closed 1.0.0 How can I get the scanner to work? It worked flawlessly with my Imac running OS10.2 a long time ago. Are there alternative applications that will do the job? Please reply asap, as I am in the middle of a big TV production and need to scan many dox and images. Thank you!

thanks fou that. But it seems you did not read that:
    1) I am using a Macbook Pro, not an Imac.(I no longer have it)
and 2) that I already have downloaded the relevant apps from Canon's own website.

If that is true, then how could my Imac with OS 10.6 do scans on the exact same scanner, without any problems?

  • peter607 Nov 23, 2010

thank you, I wrote 10.2 on the Imac in the first mail , it was 10.6, Sorry. But as I said I no longer have the Imac, only the Macbook Pro with 10.6, and scanning just is not possible with Canons software. Can you suggest alternative scanning software?

You will need to download the driver directly from canon's website in order for the imac and scanner to communicate properly. Here is the details on it and the website to get the drivers.. hope this helps, if you still are having issues reply back and I will assist you further.

  • Scanner Driver
  • Solution Menu
  • MP Navigator/ MP Navigator EX
  • Easy-PhotoPrint EX
NOTE Depending on the product you are using, some applications may not be supported.

(1) Download them from our download page. (2) Double-click each file, and it's corresponding installation window will display. (3) Follow the procedure to proceed with the installation.

The following software does not support Mac OS X v10.6:
  • Easy-PhotoPrint
(Use Easy-PhotoPrint EX.)
OR..............

To fix these symptoms:
  • TWAIN scanner or other TWAIN sources are not listed as selectable scanning sources (Toolbox, Photoshop Elements, etc.).
  • ERROR: Can't find TWAIN library in your system!" (ArcSoft PhotoStudio)
  • ERROR: Failed to open a driver (Toolbox)
Download the Mac OS X Data Source Manager (DSM) from www.twain.org.
The exact download link is:
http://www.twain.org/mac/TWAIN_for_Mac_OS_X_SDK.dmg.bin
  1. Once the file is downloaded and the disk image is mounted, double-click it to open it.

Note: This may have automatically mounted a disk image upon download. If so, continue to step 2.

    I have a Macbook Pro - downloadeddmgfile.jpg

  2. Double-click on the TWAIN for Mac OS X SDK mounted disk image.

  3. Double-click the Libraries folder.

    twainformacsdkfolder.jpg

  4. Copy the file "TWAIN Source Manager.Shlb" to the following location.

    [Library/CFMSupport/]

Special Note: The original "TWAIN Source Manager.Shlb" file, which did work but was replaced by the older version, was located in:
[System/Library/CFMSupport/]
However, it has been noticed that when certain HP scanner/all-in-one drivers replaced this file using an older version, you no longer have the ability to access the Canon TWAIN drivers from any application.

In testing, it was not necessary to remove or replace the version in this location. Simply follow the steps as noted above.

Uninstall and reinstall driver by downloading from the following link:
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp500#DriversAndSoftware

Hope this helps!

Scanning and sending faxes with multifunction printers

The software available with Snow Leopard may allow you to scan or send faxes when using a multifunction printer. To see which features are available for your printer model, find the model in the list below. In the columns next to the model and software version, you will see a "Print" if the software supports printing to the model, "Scan" if the software supports scanning with the model, and "Fax" if the software allows faxes to be sent (through the Print dialog in applications) with the model. If your printer has a feature that is not available with this software, contact the printer manufacturer for more information regarding the use of that feature.

The steps needed to send a fax from a multifunction printer vary from model to model. With some models, you will have a two printers added to your printer list with similar names, but you must select the one with "Fax" in the name when you want to send a fax from the Print dialog. With other models, you will find the fax settings in the pop-up menu in the Print dialog (the same pop-up menu where you'll find the settings that are specific to your printer). Contact your multifunction printer's manufacturer or visit their website if you have questions about sending a fax from your specific printer model

If you scroll down underneath canon, you will find your model and see that the printer is compatible and the scanner is not. I apologize for the misunderstanding

My Canon MP250 says it is offline- but there is no option of resuming the printer in the system preferences (MacBook Pro)- What other solution(s) could there be? I've tried restarting both devices

Go to System Preferences > Hardware > Print & Scan > click on add printer or scanner. Now let the OS search for printer under Default tab.
If it finds your MP250, great. Proceed with adding and delete the old MP250 printer in the list.

Can't get it to scan

The scanner part of the MP500 uses a different program to the printer driver...

Recommend you go to the Canon website and download the Navigator software for your printer model.. Install and then run it... This program is what you scan from... or any other TWAIN compliant (compatible) program.

Scan Not Working

Me too, copy and works fine. When the printer starts up I can see that the scanner moves, the green light is there - all i can see is that maybe it is vista or that i didn't run the set up cd completely. But I put the instillation CD in again and went to http://www.canon.com.au/vista/ and downloaded their driver - now it works fine
