Question about Westell Wirespeed LiteLine 6100 (B9961001002) Modem

Open Question

I have a Westell 6100 DSL modem. For the past few days, its performance has been intermittent. When I fiddle with the power cord in the back of the modem, I sometimes get it to work and the lights light up again. But, last night it didn't stay that way, and the power light kept going back to red. Do you think this is an issue with the power cord, or with the modem itself? Or, any other ideas ... Thanks and Regards, Doug

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Connect 2 PCs to Westell 6100 DSL modem

well depends on if you want to hookup wirelessly with one or not. If the modem has a USB connection as well as ethernet, then you can hook up 1 computer to usb and 1 to ethernet with no problems. If you do want a wireless hookup then yes, you need a wireless router. I would just go with a router because of the convenience of being able to go wireless if you decide to. I would suggest a Linksys WRT-54GL with a 3rd party firmware (DD,-WRT, Tomato, etc.) Hope this helps.

Is my westell modem (style: mstatea sku: f90 6100 2506) also a router?

to determine if a modem is also a router:

if it is a router:
1. at the back of the modem you should see 5 ports the first port labeled DSL and another 4 port labeled 1,2,3,4 that is for ETHERNET cable

if it is a modem only:
1. only 3 port that you can see at the back of the westell f90 1 for DSL, 1 for ETHERNET and 1 for power cord.

Do the dsl modem have to be connected to an isp before the ethernet light comes on. i started service with att and i have a modem westell 6100 i purchased before from them and i still have the software but...

no. The ethernet light should comes on right away when you plug modem if there is something plug in. There is a but. But if your dsl light is still flashing and not staying solid it is your isp problem.

Blinking light on Westell 6100 DSL modem

Blinking light means that firmware on your DSL modem just got updated. The modem is pinging the Networ/Computer connected to it. If you open your Modem Page 192.168.1.1 you will see the difference, unless you never have done it before.

I can't get on line

A blinking DSL light means that you have no DSL sync -- you are not receiving a digital signal. You will need to contact your ISP to have them repair your service.

Steps to do first:
1. Powercycle the modem -- unplug the power from the back for 15 secs, plug it back up.
2. Ensure that all phones that share a line with the DSL have filters attached.
