My 9 month old computer suddenly freezes up and must be rebooted

I have purchased this desktop for school, I pay my bills online and do online schoolwork. It came with windows vista. About a month ago, it suddenly would freeze up, the mouse would not move,a nd the only way to fix it was turn off the power strip. Not great when you are in the middle of an online test. I tried to look for solutions to download, but since I really dont know why it does it, I am lost.

Possible cause may be of either of these two insufficent memory or program malfunction.

First, check the space available on RAM on your sistem. The minimum RAM for a Vista PC is 512 but if you have 512 and is running slow you should upgrade to 1G.

Secondly, your hard disc may be getting full and it may also be the cause of the freezing. You may need to get a backup drive and save most of the file into the external drive or get a bigger hard drive for the system.

Thirdly, program malfunction. It may also be the cause.... Note the which program you are using and with that you can get the right program to uninstall. Or you can simply uninstall all the programs on the OS then reinstall them again..

You simply decide to reinstall a fresh Windows Vista or just repair Windows Vista with the Installation Disc.

Usually your bank has online help with your Bill Pay. You can always call to. I pay all my bills online. I pay them straight through the bank. I feel its alot easier than going each site to pay each bill.

Emachines T3302 can't open programs

If the programs have freezed, it might be due to a hard drive problem. And if all the icons disappear means explorer.exe is encountering a problem. Did you do a virus scan recently? Check your hard drive also.
You can check your system with these two online scanners.
Download one of them. These are the current best AV suites available for desktop products.
Right click on the taskbar and get the Task Manager
Go to processes. In the menu, select View->Select Columns->Add a tick to Virtual Memory Size.
Then expand the Task Manager window and Check the VM Size. It might be one of the reasons caused the freezing. Check which application use VM the most. By adding more Virtual memory will prevent this, if this is the case.
Otherwise Right Click on My Computer icon and go to Manage. Then from there go to Event Viewer. Under the category of System and Applications you can find related errors. Check them.
If you come up with those data we can guide you more precisly
And coz its old better do a cleanup. Defrag the hard drive using control panel. Do a disk clenup by going to properties window of each partition. Do a physical cleanup also. Remove dust and any loose connections.
Have a good day.
