If by 'account', you mean your free Yahoo Mail account, then you cannot deactivate it. Only Yahoo can do that. Your account will be automatically deactivated if you do not log in for a period of 120 consecutive days (4 months).

There is another option for you though. You can delete your account, if you know that you're not going to be using it.

To request deletion of your Yahoo mail account, click on this link:

https://edit.yahoo.com/config/delete_user

The deletion process can take up to *90* days, even after you have requested that Yahoo remove your account, so do not be concerned if your account still appears to be active for awhile.

My account has been deactivated I need it restored

Recovering or reactivating a deleted Yahoo account
To reactivate your account
  1. On a desktop or laptop computer, visit the Yahoo Sign In page.
  2. Enter your Yahoo ID and password.
  3. Confirm your Yahoo ID and complete the CAPTCHA verification.
  4. Select Reactivate at the bottom of the page.
If successful, the reactivation can take up to 24 hours. Keep in mind that some account data may be lost and not recoverable.
While it may be possible to recover certain deleted or inactive Yahoo Mail accounts, recovery isnot possible if:
  • The account was deactivated due to a violation of the Terms of Service.
  • The account was deleted due to inactivity (you must sign-in at least once every 12 months).

If the above options don't explain why your account was deactivated, there's a chance that a third party deleted it. Just to be safe, we recommend changing your password to secure your account. Check out our Yahoo Security Center for more information about online security.

Additional Information
You can upgrade to a Yahoo Mail Plus or Yahoo Mail Premium Mailbox account to protect your account from dormancy in the future.
Note: Yahoo Mail Plus is not available in all regions.

My account has been deactivated

One of the drawbacks of free email services is that they're easy to forget you have an account. Yahoo! Mail is just one of those free email services. Say a few months go by, you've turned your attentions elsewhere, but you remembered you have a Yahoo! account and you want to check your email. But after you log in, it informs you that your Yahoo! Mail is no longer active. What do you do?

Log in to your Yahoo! Mail account as usual. A message will appear that says your account has been deactivated due to inactivity. Reactivate your Yahoo! Mail by clicking on the "Reactivate Your Yahoo! Mail address" link that is located at the bottom of the page. Sign into your account at least once a month to avoid automatic deactivation by Yahoo! in the future.
