Hi.

The character befor the last 8 in model is a letter. The model is probably YKERC607HS8.

Since the oven is clicking, then relays are likely working. The relays must be tested reading voltages, or replacing them. Testing on relays can be done at last. The technician can test initially if there is volts at temperature probe and element, that is already an indication that relays worked. For safety reasons it is better if the user does not perform tests that must be done with power on (volts reading).

The appliance can be tested almost entirely using Ohm meter on parts after disconnecting power.

The first part that can be tested is the temperature probe. This is located inside the oven cavity, and it is indicated as part nr.22 in diagram 1 below. Here the part: sensor.
The probe can be tested removing it from cavity and reading Ohms at its terminals. If the probe is good it will read low impedance or zero at room temp. If the probe shows no continuity at room temperature (circuit open), then the part needs replacement.
Other way to test the probe is by jumping its contacts and starting the oven for a short time. If oven starts heating, then the probe was responsible for the problem. The oven can easily blow elements with probe sensor contacts jumped. Testing must be done by a competent person.
When the oven is not baking or broiling, the temperature sensor is often responsible.

If the probe is good, then the elements must be tested. When problem is caused by an element you usually do not loose bot baking and broiling functions at once. If oven is not baking and not broiling, then the elements are unlikely responsible.
Elements must be tested reading impedance. If one of them shows no continuity, then the part must be replaced.

Next step will be checking if there is continuity in wiring between elements and sensor, and between sensor and oven electronic control contacts.

After that the relays and the control board are tested reading voltages. The relay board is placed at the back of the oven on the left hand side watching appliance from front.

The problem causing the symptoms you described is usually the temperature sensor. Test and eventually replace it .

First start up

You're actually referring to the "broiler" elements. Most electric ovens have these at the top of the main oven space. (Some gas ovens are set up the same way, but many put the broiler elements in a bottom drawer.)

As their name implies, broiler elements are active only when you're broiling. They will not go on for baking.

Broiling is the process of cooking food by exposing it directly to a high heat source at close range. To broil a steak, for example, you would place the pan holding the steak on an oven rack raised to the top or next to top position in the oven (consult the manual) and set the oven to broil. The top elements will then turn on and cook the meat by direct radiation.

Most people, however, use ovens for baking far more often than for broiling. Baking is the process of cooking food (cakes, casseroles, roasts etc) by indirect heat. In other words you raise the oven to a certain temperature, put the food on a rack more in the middle of the oven, and let the surrounding heat cook it over time. When you bake the top broiler elements usually don't come on at all.

I hope this helps.

I want to use top and bottom ovens but at different temps - how do I do this

To Set a Cook T ime:
1. On double oven models only, press UPPER OVEN or LOWER
OVEN for the one you want to set.
2. Press BAKE or CONVECT UPPER (on some models).
Press the number pads to enter a temperature other than the
one displayed.
3. Press COOK TIME.
4. Press the HR and MIN "up" or "down" arrow pads to enter
the length of time to cook.
5. Press START/ENTER.
The start time and stop time countdown will appear on the
oven display.
On double oven models only, when both upper and lower
ovens are being used at the same time, touch UPPER OVEN
or LOWER OVEN to display the respective cook time.
When the stop time is reached, the oven will shut off
automatically and "End" will appear on the oven display.
If enabled, end-of-cycle tones will sound, then reminder
tones will sound every minute.
Repeat the process by choosing the other option of UPPER or LOWER OVEN

How do I use the thermometer in my Kitchenaid Superba?

I found the answer by checking the Kitchenaid website to find the manual. My model is KEMS308sss04, this is found on the right door frame. Website is: http://shop.kitchenaid.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%20W10162223.pdf
You can preheat oven, but then turn off to set thermometer. Put probe in food. Put food in oven and plug in probe. The digital light asks for the temperature you want, type it in. Then the cooking method. I used convection bake at 325. Hit START. (The first time I didn't stop the oven and it didn't work. After stopping everything and starting with the probe before turning on the oven, it worked perfectly. Good Luck.

had same problem, had computer checked out by profesisonal. Was ok. But it seems it is the control pad that clean cycle screws up. Try this (thanks to my wife and her experimental prowess). 1. turn oven on to custom broil. 2. push down temp button to 375. 3. press bake button. 4. You should now have up or down temp. We think you have to get past pre heat cycle in order for this to work. But work it does.

New oven won't work

cobrapilot sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Some where in the oven the contacts going to the oven probe are closing. This could be wiring going to the probe missing insulation and hitting the sheet metal, or the probe socket itself closed. I usually see this after the unit is in use, not right after install. Have you tried to cook a roast or such in the probe mode to see if it will work? For the oven may work just fine then. You are correct about your last line, until service resolves this issue, you have just an expensive microwave. Also as a side note, be sure an be there when the tech showes up. They may just try to say we need a part and not actually attempt to fix your unit. I am not sure what area you are in, however try Olson Appliance Service, He has a website, he is authorized Kitchen Aide service and maybe he can help.
