Question about HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I can't get round this problem trying to wirelessly install my printer: Printer rediscovery problems detected. Your PC may not be able to track online status changes of your printer. If you are using firewall software, verify UDP port 427 is unblocked from your printer at 192.168.0.103 to your PC. To fix the issue(s) try to power your printer off and on.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I've already installed it by USB and I did previously have it connected on my old wireless network without issue. I moved house and have a new router and I can't get it to work with this one.

I don't really know what I'm doing with my router but put in the following settings which didn't work:

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply.

The IP address of the print keeps changing! It's changed from ...101 to ...103. Should I create a rule for a few IP addresses?

Please note that I don't really know what I'm doing with regards to the WAN / LAN settings so I'd be grateful if you could confirm that the settings as I've put them are correct. If so should I then to the same for say, 102 and 103 IP address?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Thanks for your reply.

I entered the names HP and HP2 - I wasn't sure what to put here.

    > I would suggest you to set the lowest to 8 and the highest to 427.

Are there any security implications to doing this?

  • amshowman99 Nov 16, 2010

Thanks. Ok - just to confirm:

    1) Do I want Interface as Lan in the top one and Wan in the bottom one or the other way round?

    2) And for IP address should I put 192.168.0.101 in the first and third boxes and 192.168.0.103 in the second and fourth boxes?

    3) I'll keep Protocol as UDP and put the port range as 8 to 427.

  • amshowman99 Nov 16, 2010

Thanks - I'll set both to Lan. I'll let you know how I get on and hopefully be able to mark this as completed in the next 24 hours.

  • amshowman99 Nov 17, 2010

Thanks so much - my wireless printer is working at long last!

If the printer is already detected and the problem is only with that UDP port 427, then you better create a new Firewall rule on the Router with the IP address 192.168.0.103. Referring to the screenshot you've posted back earlier, only two rules have been created. Add another two with the similar settings and with the new IP address 192.168.0.103. Restart your computer, the router and the printer. It should work fine. By the way, which router are you using? What model and what make? [for reference only, not much related with this issue.]

If you home network is already correctly setup and running, then you only need to deal with the Router's firewall settings.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Ok, create new rules with all these IP addresses 192.168.0.101, 192.168.0.102 and 192.168.0.103.

I am little confused with your screenshot, do you have multiple network printers installed? I can see HP and HP2, if there's only one, you better deal with only one, otherwise the other might interfere with the settings.

There's something wrong with the Port Range (UDP Port range), I would suggest you to set the lowest to 8 and the highest to 427. That'll do the trick, otherwise only port 427 will be activated if in case other ports are necessary for the connection.

No, there's not security issues since this rules are only for the printer, but it's needed to be configured only for one printer if there's only one printer. About the port numbers, you shouldn't impose only one port since the communication needs several ports, not only 427.

    1. You don't need to configure the WAN, this connection type is only with LAN, i.e. Printer is on the Local Area Network, not on the Wide Area Network. But if there's no option to Disable, put the same ip addresses are you did with the Lan, the WAN will never influence in the network.

    2. Yes, that'll cover the range from 101 to 103.

I would suggest you install the printer with the USB cable first and make it operational. Then shift to the wireless connection which I assume runs from a router.

See page 18 o f the user manual.

My 6500 was working fine until I had High Speed internet installed. Re-installed driver but still will not print.

Hi,

Since you have re-installed the drivers, there are likely chances, the print spooler is not active or is there are documents stuck in the queue.

The below Utility program will detect for any HP Printer connected to your pc and Fix the issues with self-explanatory screen guide.

HP Printer Utility

Click on the link above and download the utility and save it on your Desktop. It will be helpful for you in future in many ways to troubleshoot technical issues.

If the Printer is not detected by the Utility, it means there is connectivity problem, Check the cables are connected properly, try changing the cable or port it is connected.

Suhail

Hi Good Day,

1) Make sure that the printer is connected to your own wireless network (SSID).

2) Try connecting the printer via USB cable if the printer works then no problem with the printer.

3) Try checking the ip address of your printer and try doing a ping test on your computer and check if your computer able to detect the printer's ip address.

4) Try going to printers then add a printer then choose wireless printer and follow the step by step guide.

5) if all those step will not work try calling HP printer support so that they can do an advance troubleshooting and if your printer still in warranty then they will be able to replace it for free.

Printer does not respond to computer

Check the type of connection - are you using a USB connection or a Wireless connection?
- If USB, turn off the printer. - remove the power cable at the back of the printer, then remove the cable to the wall outlet. Wait for 10 sec. then reconnect all cables. - turn on the printer and check if the computer detects the printer. - If not, try to remove the USB cable at the back of the printer and computer. Wait for 5sec. reconnect the cable back. Try other USB port if not detected. - If still not detected try to use another working USB cable. - If replacing the cable did not resolve the issue, try to install the driver of the printer.
- If wireless connection try to check if the printer is connected to your router. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard in the front panel of the printer. Select the name of your router. - Download the Network Diagnostic Utility on the HP.com website to check what is causing the issue. It will give you the instruction on how to resolve the problem.

Computer says unable to communicate with printer : if using firewall unblock UDP port 427..I'm not sure how to do this. This problem occurs sporadically..sometimes the printer works, sometimes it doesn't

Most of the times just skipping that message will let you use the printer. That message is something that has to do with the printer rediscovery just incase the printer get's disconnected.
Checking with your anti virus software provider might help.
Regarding that message though. Try skipping that and try printing.
The printer should work.
