Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure to use fresh fuel mix and shake the container thoroughly just before filling the tank each time to prevent oil starvation. Hope this helps!

How to adj the crab on a poulan chainsaw

if the engine is in good shape..screw in both carb jets adjusting screws till they seat lightly, then back them out 1 1/2 turns, srew in the throttle adj screw a turn and start the motor,,warning if the chain is on make sure the blade isnt likely to touch anything when the engine starts as you will have to have the brake off to get started and adjusted. With the engine running, adjust the throttle srew until it is idling just above shutting off speed, then adjust the "L" low speed jet to get the best idling speed without srewing it in much, reset the throttle srew, then , while trying to accelerate suddenly each time, open the Low jet a little at a time until the machine accelerates smoothly without hesitation. Reset the throttle srew to a position that the chain stops running at idle and check again that the acceleration is without hesitation ( usually with "L" jet about 1/4 turn out more than best idling). The high "H" jet can now be set to give the best power while cutting a block of wood.

42cc 18 inch craftsman chainsaw model 358-351910-18. Saw runs great at idle or while not cutting wood, when starting to cut wood just after the entire bar gets into the wood engine bogs down and chain...

Generally this is a fuel / air ratio problem. Usually it can be solved by a carb adjustment. On the carb there are usually two screws, one marked low or L , the other marked high or H. Low is your adjustment for idle mixture, high is for mixture at full throttle. The saw should Always be adjusted to run well during the cut. Make adjustments a little at a time, then try The saw. Continue small adjustments untill the saw is performing well at full throttle while Cutting.

Yes I have a echo CS-3450 type 1-E and have to work the throttle just to keep it running.changed the fuel filter, sparkplug, gas ratio 40:1

Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure the muffler is not plugged. If the jet screws have slot heads, turn the H jet screw CCW somewhat until the engine 4-strokes at speed, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. If the engine lags behind the throttle when accelerating, turn the L jet screw CCW about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Hope this helps!

I lost my manual-what is oil mixture ratio- I changed my setting when I went to Colorado this past summer I need them reset for lower elevation Where should they be turned to

The fuel to oil ratio is 50 to 1. Both mixture screws will need to set somewhat richer, about 1/8 to 1/4 turn each CCW. Proper setting for H is so that a warm engine running full throttle will 4-stroke, but 2-stroke immediately when cutting. L should be set so that the engine idles fairly smoothly, but will 'follow-the-throttle' when accelerated. These mixture screws have special 'D' shaped heads that prevents owner tampering--only authorized service agencies have the proper tool (I made my own D head driver!). Hope this helps!

MacCulloch 839 Petrol Chainsaw.Erratic running

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Warm up the engine first. Pull the throttle full on and try turning the H jet needle CW with the engine 4-stroking, but which immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This will not produce the highest speed, but will produce the most power and least heat. Be sure to use fresh fuel mix at all times. Hope this helps!

Runs until I start cutting something, then turns off.

Remove the muffler and clean the spark arrestor screen. Check the top edge of the exhaust port in the cylinder for any carbon build-up. Scrape it clean if necessary (but don't scratch the piston or cylinder wall). Check the air cleaner for plugging. Turn both H and L mixture screws in the carburetor CW to their stops (lightly), the back out 1-1/2 turns each. Start the engine and warm it up, then open the throttle. Turn the H needle CW until the engine speeds up, but continues to '4-stroke' yet starts '2-stroking' immediately when you begin cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L for smoother idle, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle' when accelerated. Adjust idle speed to just stop the chain from turning. Make sure the chain is being oiled properly. Hope this helps!

How do I adjust the mixtures?

Is this helpful?
The "L" adjusts acceleration and smooth running. The "H" adjustment is almost completely how it performs at full throttle (should be adjusted for performance in a cut IMO). HTH

I had to remove the carburetor and soak it. After reassembly I need to know how to adjust the two mixture screws that protrude out the side of the chassis. On the carburetor they are marked H & L.

Turn both screws CW to stops (lightly), then both CCW 1-1/2 turns each. The saw should run at these settings. Warm it up, then start with H screw--run full speed and adjust (usually CW) for highest speed, but 4-stroking which begins 2-stroking with light cutting load. Next set L so that it idles fairly smoothly, but will try to follow the throttle when accelerating.
