No, but it is a good idea to return to normal position so you know when you are low on gas.

Turns over but dose not start, spark plug sparking ok

Check you have petrol if the bike has not been run for sometime replace the fuel. Petrol ages and causes all manner of problems.
Are you trying to start the bike but it has gone onto reserve, move the fuel tap to the reserve position then try to start it. If the above fails, then try these:-
Is the spark plug wet when removed. If dry it sounds like the petrol is not getting through. Try opening the filler cap and leave it open, make sure the kill switch is in the run position. Try starting with the throttle full open. Does the bike have a manual choke try to start with the throttle shut, choke off, then full on, then while continuing to turn over move the choke lever in stages from fully on to fully off. I find on my Yam TW125 (winter and bad weather hack) that if I have not used it for a while sharp twist the throttle a couple of times no more than a third of a turn. Hope this helps.

Which way turns the gas on

The tap bit that fits into yr fingers when turning it OFF and ON, should have a longer pointier end and a shorter blunt or more rounded end to it. With the Pointier end "DOWN" or at "6 o'clock" = petrol is ON and bike will run. With the Pointier end "up" or at "12 o'clock" = petrol is now reserve (1 to 3 litres left in tank, depends on the bike make etc) about 3.5 Litres on a VStar1100. With the Pointier end "VERTICAL" or at "9 o'clock" = petrol is OFF and bike will not run, petrol to motor is blocked.

Hi, Surender you need to unblock the fuel tank vent line if it has one if it does not then you need to unblock the fuel cap venting system drill a small hole in the cap that will allow venting but no fuel escape or replace the fuel cap with a new one for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. I have an aprilia rx125 2008 & the oil petrol mixing system has been blocked off and now petrol & oil are mixed in the petrol tank, but the bike starts for 3-5seconds then stops & petrol comes out of

Hi Steve, and the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.

What is prime on petrol tap on bandit 600 1997.what position should arrow be pointing for on /off/reserve.cheers bandit.

Prime is for when you have taken the carbs off and need to fill up the float bowls. And your arrow should be pointing to ON when your driving the bike. Usually this is UP or to the rear of the bike on most bikes if it doesnt have a engraving on the petcock to show you.you can also check an owners manual online for the correct position.

Hi, I bought new pulsar 150 2 months back. some time it is giving me mileage about 40km/l and some times I don't know where petrol is going? for 1.5 l petrol I can't drive even 35 kms? I checked with...

this problem may also occur due to the quality of petrol u filled in ur bike.......always use high quality fuel.... fuels are classified by their octane number,if this is low...it produces more carbon particles which cause the fuel unburnt and exhausted without consuming..... so clean ur spark plug properly and then try to check the milage

How to refill the reserve gas tank 1981 Honda CX500 motorcycle

there is only one tank to fill on your bike, your getting confused by the reserve. The reserve is just on the fuel tap itself. It has three positions, on , off and reserve. In the on position your fuel tap will be able to drink about 90% of your fuel tank and then it wont be able to drain anymore, then you must turn your fuel tap to the reserve position and it will be able to drink rest of your tank approx 10% that is left. So next time you fill up at a petrol station make sure your fuel tap is set to on, then when your bike starts to splutter out of fuel you can turn your fuel tap to reserve and get yourself to the petrol station to fill up, making sure you then turn your tap to on again. If you keep running out on the reserve it can cause debris in your tank to clog your carb up.
hope this helps

Mileage test

Take the reading from the reserve to reserve by filling one litre of petrol when the vehicle goes to reserve. (Arrow of the petrol tap should always face main for main and res. for reserve),
