Hi Sean, I was a bit uneasy & did not want to answer you're question. Reason being I have received a bad rating from people. It's not just that, more over its Vista most of the time. Sill I get the bad end of the vote.
So there are a few reasons for this to happen. Let's try the Microsoft first. Click on this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/314060
Scroll down till you come to, Method 2: Manually delete the registry entries. Follow the instructions. If this does not help/fix than we'll move to the next step. (This is the easy one). Run windows update service. Next option. You need to enter you're bios. For notebooks this varies. At start up you will need o press the F2, F10 or F12 key to enter into the bios main menu.
Listed at the main menu are settings like the time & date. Also the hard drive & CD-ROM drive. If the bios does not show the cd-rom drive it is possible that the data cable inside you're notebook has come loose. You will need to open up you're notebook & make sure the data cable is fully connected. Installing some software can cause you're cd-rom to not be found. Adobe software can also do this. Try this link.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402306
Almost done.
Try this other link from Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314060

Lastly the cd-rom may have just reached it's end & is bad.

There is usually more than 1 way to fix everything in a PC or notebook.

Good Luck Sean!
Mike

How to replace Acer Aspire 5630 Hard Drive

The link below gives you the user manual. On the computer views is the base view which will show you the correct bay on the bottom of the computer. You will loosed the screws to that bay, remove the cover andl you will see the hard drive. Althought I have not removed this particular laptop hard drive, these drives usually pull up or back using a tab provided. The hard drive will probably have a cradle the actual drive is connected to. You will have to removed the old drive from this cradle and put the new drive back on the cradle exactly the way the old drive was attached,

I hope that this information helps and gives you a place to start solving your issue.

I have a problom with my Acer Aspire5630. I use

no don't replace the hard drive, you shouldn't have to if youre playing the dvd straight from the disc itself... well first off, make sure it's not getting bumped around and it's sitting flat... also make sure the dvd's your using aren't scratched or dirty... if everything like that is fine then you might just make sure that you're not running too many programs at once while your computer is playing the dvd...

Acer Aspire cd/dvd/rw drive 'missing'

Go to device manager and look for the dvd/cd on the list. Click on the "+" sign and you may have a yellow, red or black symbol. right-click on the device and reinstall the driver. That should get it working again. If not then try the troubleshooting in the device manager, same place you reinstall the driver. Follow the instructions. If none of that works then it needs to be replaced.

Pls rate this solution.

Downloading from a CD

Hi there.

When you pop in the cd, give it a few seconds, then open My Computer and double click the cd icon. You should then be able to see the files on the cd and click on the setup file.

Let me know if this works.

Acer aspire can't find the dvd to play cd's

In the device manager, select the DVD ROM and UNINSTALL / REMOVE the device.  Restart Windows . . . did this work?  If not, boot into your CMOS and see if the drive is being detected by the motherboard... if yes, look further and make sure the settings for the drive are correct. Make sure that all IDE interfaces are enabled in the CMOS settings (both)

Problem in acer aspire 5630

- is the BIOS set to boot from the hard drive ?
- have u changed any drive setting in BIOS (sata mode, pata mode ...)
- try to boot with a linux live cd, or with the vista dvd and see if they can see the drive ... if thay can, than most probably a reinstall of the OS would fix the problem, if not , check the BIOS settings, also make sure that the drive is properly fixed in it;s place, if posible test it on another laptop to be sure if it;s causing the probems or not ...

Acer aspire 5630 wont turn on

reinstall os from cd.by shutting down in that manner he was probably in the middle of something and didnt close the program resulting in missing sys32 files which is why it wont start.this type of thing happens often and not only for that reason.
do you get anything at all on screen .
can u enter setup(bios)
try removing memory ,make sure free from dust and replace.
no screen is either missing memory, fault with hd(bad sectors)
fault with bios(hardly ever),damaged or dislodged graphics card or damaged cpu(processor)
