In most cars as a safety measure the video will trigger ON only when the vehicle is in PARKED condition with the hand brakes pulled ON.
There is a trigger from the handbrake and the ignition switch that only when the car is parked the video must switch on. hence it is quite possible in your case that this must be checked out.
The other option can be that the player is locked out by a code set by the owner , if this is a child lock protection. since the models were not specified please check on these tips.
