Question about Samsung SyncMaster 203B LCD Monitor

3 Answers

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 203B which works okay with my older laptops on Windows XP but not on the newer ones with Windows 7. Since I need it to play a training DVD which *won't* work on the older laptops, I need to knwo how to get it to work with Windows 7 - if that's possible. Thank, Mara

Thank you - I'll try this out and get back to you (it may be a few hours as I have to do it on my husband's computer.)

Hi - I downloaded the monitor driver and installed it. it said it was installed instantly (which was suspicious) and when I tried it out nothing had changed. The main problem is the monitor won't stay on, and keeps switching from on to off as well as flickering and other weird things that don't happen when I use it on an older laptop.
In "Devices and Printers" the monitor is recognised by name with an icon and is said to be "working perfectly." So I don't really understand what's going on and what I need to do next.

I have called Samsung and they say there is no answer for this issue so I need to conclude this dialogue with you and Fixya. Thanks, but no payment.

As I clearly indicated on my last comment to the expert, his suggestions did not work and a call to Samsung elicited the information that my monitor is simply incompatible with Windows 7. Therefore no one can help. Why is there no way to indicate this on Fixya? i.e. an "I'm closing the case" or canceling the question option? Instead you inundate me with time-wasting emails. Hey, billing support is at premium.support@fixya.com
As for a solution, basically windows update, if you run windows update with the monitor connected to the laptop, you should find a driver from Microsoft, in the OPTIONAL updates for the display if one exists. Thats how I've got drivers for my display, but in most cases, you don't need any drivers for a display. But I've noticed that Samsung are a exception to this and won't work normally without them in all cases.

If you are having trouble with your monitor on your Windows 7 computer but it works fine on your Windows XP system then you are having a driver issue. The ink below is to the XP drivers for the monitor and they may work. If not you may need to contact Samsung to see if they have a driver for the monitor that you can install for Windows 7. Alot of times they will have a newer model that will have the same base hardware so the driver will work.

Another thing to do is make sure you have the most current driver installed for your video card as this will update the generic display driver to maybe allow the monitor to work properly without the actual driver for the monitor.

If you are needing help installing the monitor drivers the link below will help you.

Will you be able to connect this monitor on another desktop or laptop with Windows 7? It is possible that there's problem with the Video port of the new laptop with windows 7. Actually, windows 7 should have readily installed this driver and you don't need to install the drivers. This will clear the confusion. Maybe there could be problem with Windows vista, but I don't think this should happen with Windows 7.
Awaiting.

There will be buttons on the front of the monitor where you can change the position of the screen, you could also do this in the display driver on your macbook although I couldnt tell you exactly how on that particular mac, pretty sure the menu onthe monitor will get it sorted though.

This model is a great one and well worth repairing. The display problem you are having is caused by bad capacitors on the power supply board. To repair the unit you will need to replace 6 capacitors and one fuse on the board, this is very easy to do, it just requires a little soldering. Here is a picture of the power supply board with the capacitors and the fuse circled and here is a link to additional information on the capacitors needed.

SyncMaster 203B (Black) LCD Monitor: Monitor will not stay on (Samsung Syncmaster 203B)...

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I want to open the case of Samsung Syncmaster 203b without damaging. Can you advise?

I do not recommend this at all. There is a VERY HIGH RISK of damaging internal components. If you want to tweak/modify/etc., just say no. The only thing you can do is keep it clean. If you're wanting to make it better, then I suggest investing in a new one.

How to rotate display when I rotate screen - SyncMaster 203B

You ought to be able to bring up the video card settings from your control panel and change it there. For instance I have a nVidia graphics card. When I bring up the settings panel it offers me the opportunity to change the rotation there.
