How do i factory restore toshiba 1405-s151? Is there a restore partition?

Yes, there is one. The hard drive is split into two patitions. Have a look.
If it is still intact then F8 will guide you there.
Hope that helps.

How do i clean hard drive

if you mean erase...j...for any partitions (drives) that do not have an operation system on just clik right on the partition and than format ..(choose to format ntfs quick)
for the C partition ..the one with the operation system on it ..yo need to boot from a installation cd with windows (or any other ) on ..and start a new installation ...when you get to the point where you choose the partition to install just ..format the partition with the old os on it ...same ...ntfs...
after that either make the install or just stop in this point and all you have its a clean hdd..
the other way to hook it into another computer a secondary hdd..and just format it clean ...even can to use a program to rearange the partition resize them or make more or less..
same for an external one ...just right click on it ...and format ..
if you are talking about scanning thats another story ...either right click on partition and choose to scan with the program you have installed..or choose scan for whole computer from the program...
also there are other available defragmentation and so on...

How can I split the use of my hard drives more effectively? My struggle with my C drive constantly to keep it over 300 M while my D drive sits there with over 5 G. The whole system pauses a lot because...

Need to know what size each patition is. Double click on "My Computer" and see how many drives are listed, normally C, D but if you also have an E then its patitioned. Right click on each to see how big they are. The only way to re-organise a pertition is to back up all info / format the drive and re-organise the partition to about 50/50. You can get aftermarket partition makers but will cost you, Another suggestion is to transfer all pics, docs etc to the other partition so that only programs are running in C drive and nothing is stored on it.

Won't fully boot. Get windows screen, then it stalls gray

reformated twice? have you already ran diagnostics on the hdd? check first the hdd thru diagnostics it might the hdd causing the problem. if no errors found in hdd make sure it was reformated as clean install. your hdd might have partition and just reinstalled OS on he same partition without deleting partitions. Try deleting partitions then create new partitions then reinstall OS.

I have a drive on an HP laptop that is going south. I want to reinstall vista which is on the D drive partition as I was not given a Vista installation disk. How do I reinstall from the D drive?

If you have a HDD going South, I belive your recovery partition will be on that same drive.....If the drive you have is still good, you can buy another drive like a Seagate and it comes with a cd that has a clone program on it. Get an EIDE / Sata to usb adapter, they can be purchased at computer outlets and attach the new HDD to your laptop via the adapter. Then using the cloning utility, clone your existing drive to the new one. When it finishes, take out the original drive and replace it with the new one and reboot....the laptop will now think that the new one is the old one and the laptop will work as it did before and the HDD do not have to be the same size, you can get a bigger one if you want, the clone program does not care about mismatched sizes.

Cloned 40 gb hard drive to a 160 gb for toshiba A15-S157 model

I'm guessing that your question is why does my new 160G hard drive only show up as a 40G. When you use Norton Ghost to make an image of your hard drive, there were several questions it asked. One was whether you wanted to make an image of the whole partition. When this is selected Ghost acts like a camera and takes a picture of your old drive, partitions and all. When you put this image on a new drive it puts on exactly that a picture of your old (40G) drive. I have never been successful a trying to expand an image. As long as the old drive is still good you could start the process over and make an image of just your data, then format the 160G drive, reinstall Windows and place the data image on the new drive. You will have to reinstall the applications.
