Compaq Presario CQ50 Graphics Card

Hi Michelle,
According to Hp, your laptop probably came with an NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G video card. Here's how you can confirm it:
Go to device manager - click start then right-click on 'computer' and left click on properties in the menu that pops up. Click on device manager near the top left corner of the window. Device manager will open and show you a listing of the hardware in your laptop. Now click the triangle beside 'display adapters' and you will see which video card you have.
Hope this helps!

Can I install a DVI card in this computer and if so what kind? Thanking you in advance.

what is your motherboard and by dvi card do you mean video card with dvi output regardless the answer is yes. you just need to know what type of port you have for your video card pci express is usually a blue long port with a side latch, agp port is smaller and had a sliding cover around the port to lock the card in place it looks like a normal pci port but with the slide. make sure you buy the right card for the right port. you can also buy a pci video card!

thats your solution!

What kind of video card can I put in it?

This computer of yours has a motherboard that supports a PCI-E type fo video card so you can use almost any PCI-E video card out in the market right now like this one for example NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express.

Using that video card will result to a better video resolution and can almost play any high end game right now out in the market.

Cant play games

If you know what kind of video card you have, I'd suggest getting updated drivers. If you have an Nvidia card, www.nvidia.com, ATI, ati.amd.com.

You can also do start menu->run and enter 'dxdiag' without the quotes and that should tell you what you need to know about your card to find out the right information. Let me know if you have a question.

the problem Probably is that the memory card isn't the right kind, so it just records to the "Built in memory". The only way to fix this is to format the Memory card
