Question about HP Pavilion dv7-1130us laptop

1 Answer

My laptop is coming up on 3 years old now. My computer completely crashes. Not even blue screen crashes, the screen goes black (still on with the backlight) and the computer becomes completely unresponsive. The issue started a couple months ago and has slowly increased in frequency to today where it occurs about 2-3 times a day. There are no viruses on my computer and I've been keeping it in as peak condition as I can using AVG Antivirus, CCleaner and Defraggler since the day I got it. I suspect the graphics card is starting to fail and that failure is in some way affecting the rest of the computer, but I'm not an expert in such in depth processes so it very well be something entirely different. Hopefully someone else knows what the problem is.

If the operating system, antivirus etc. are working fine, check out the graphic drivers. Uninstalling/ Reinstalling or updating drivers may help.

First and the most important step is to BACKUP YOUR DATA IMMEDIATELY...

In case of any failing hardware, i think it could be the graphic processor and overheating of the system due to clogging and dust in the fan and heat sink etc. as the PC is 3 years old. It would be better to get it checked and serviced by a professional at the earliest, before it sustains any further damage to graphics processor, which leads to replacement of motherboard.

Hope it helps you!

Mine did this to me for awhile and eventually went completely black. (I had a pc) When I had it checked out they told me that my hard drive crashed and that it would cost more to fix it then my computer was worth (and my computer was only about a year old). Hopefully, it\'s not the same for you because it\'s such a pain to buy a new computer especially when you have lost all you info! However, if you have a mac and it\'s less than a year old it\'ll be covered by the warranty- after a year if you decided not to purchase the warranty then it\'s also going to be a better investment to buy a new mac. Good luck~

Hello,

Your computer's operating system just crashes down. What you can do is to do a start up repair. You need the operating system discs which came with your computer during the time when you bought it. It says windows 7 installation/operating system.

Here's what you need to do.

1. Insert the windows 7 operating system disc in the dvd drive.
2. Restart the computer. It will bring you to a page which will ask you to press any key. Just press any key to boot to the installation cd.
3. A blue screen will appear and it will bring you to the page which has the option to install or to repair. Select repair.
4. Then follow the on-screen instructions and finish the process until it restarts.
5. If it does not fix the problem, you have to do a complete/clean reinstallation.

I am providing you a full tutorial on how to do it. Click on the link below so that you will be directed to the link.

It went black but the power is still on

Computer Crash
One of the more complicated reasons why laptop screen goes black is a crash. This could occur for a variety of reasons and is often very difficult to fix. You will have to take the machine to a computer repair shop, and they will open up the laptop there to find the cause. Needless to say, this could set you back by a few hundred dollars as well. The crash could be caused by overheating, or maybe even a loose power supply cable. One solution for you is to play an audio file if the laptop screen goes black. If it does not play at all then something is wrong with the entire system, but if the audio file plays then it is just the laptop screen that is troubled.

Virus
There are a few computer viruses that can cause this problem, but most antivirus programs can effectively deal with such a virus. Update your antivirus software regularly and make sure you download all possible firmwares, and this sort of virus will be successfully thwarted. If your machine is infected with such a virus then your video drivers will most certainly be affected, and even your video card could get contaminated. All this results in your computer screen going black, and in some instances, your laptop screen may even go blue.

Drivers and Programs
The video drivers are crucial for making the computer monitor function properly. On some occasions though, these programs can stop functioning due to some reason. If your laptop screen goes black after startup on a consistent basis, then maybe it is your video drivers that are malfunctioning. To avoid this situation, you should constantly upgrade your video drivers, and should also refrain from using pirated video drivers. Spend those extra bucks on getting licensed drivers, and you will save a lot of unnecessary expenditure in the future. Read more on how to upgrade laptop video card.

Sounds like a software error. When the screen has been blaxk for a minute or two try hitting control+alt+del and use the task manager to start the process explorer.exe if so then there is a registry or windows error and needs to be repaired.

Try to get in long enough to check for Battery drivers in your system devices, they may need to be reinstalled,as your computer keeps crashing, this may corrupt them. Also try running your laptop with 1 Ram card at a time, you will find the cards located on the bottom of the laptop..just take the screw out till the door opens and leave 1 Ram card in,see if the laptop still acts up....if it does, take that Ram out and try the other one by itself. You may have to get a new plug and solder it in or you can just hold the power plug in with a peice of black electrical tape. Please let me know how you make out :)
