Normally the manufacture has a website where you can download the supporting software and drivers if needed, instead of using the cd. also, if downloading the software provides you with new drivers/software that have patches or updates to the original software on the cd.

Remove the webcam drivers and then reinstall them if this wont solve you will need to check/open the device mananger, check for the properties of the webcam and update drivers once again.
Scan the PC for virus if there are faulty files it is possible that the OS is corrupt. If not the webcam hardware might be faulty.

DVD Drive corrputed

Hi there,

the installation of the webcam shouldnt have affected the drive atall. Try uninstalling the webcam first of all, and then see if the DVD drive is working again. It may be a coincidence that it has failed, at the same time as installing the webcam.

Something you can try if you have windows XP:

To check the health of the DVD drive, go to start>control panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer.

click on "system" from the list on the left of the window, then click "type" to group all the events, errors, and warning. check to see if you have any messages such as "CDROM" Device CDROM0 has a bad block. (something like this). Thats always a sign that your cd drive is on its way out.

If the CD drive still works but just cant play movies (but can read all other files fine) Then i'd try using different software to play the files. Try VLC player from videolan.org, which plays all file types.

I hope this helps

Optiarc DVD/CD won't work since webcam install

Try doing a system restore to right before when you installed the web cam. You will not loose any of your documents but it will bring the system back to the working state it was in before you installed the webcam.

Webcam software

before installng the driver you must first remove it by uninstalling the previous driver from your machine. To do that, go to control panel, click the webcam software that you use then click uninstall. after uninstalling put the cd to the dvd rom drive then, run it, then install it.
