# I have a punch 1000 amp and 1 l7 15 and i need to find out how i can get it wired and adjusted to 2 ohms please

I am not familiar with "I7 15" but will assume it is a speaker. Please correct me if I am wrong. As for the amp setup:
The amp output impedance is not adjustable. The amp is rated at 1 ohm which means you can connect any amount of speakers onto the output as long as the sum total of the load you connect to the amp is not less than 1 ohm.
Speaker impedance is also not adjustable but the total load connected to an amp can be altered by altering the way the speakers are connected to the amp.
The formula for calculating impedance looks very complicated but is quite simple.
First you have to understand the difference between series and parallel connections.
See diagram.
Series: Connecting 2 or more speakers by using the negative on one speaker connected to the positive on the next speaker.
Parallel ( // ) : Connecting the positive of a speaker to the positive of the next and the negative of the speaker to the negative of the next.

Connecting speakers in series is handy when you have two 500 watt speakers for instance and want to run them off an 1000 watt amp. Connecting them in series will assure that you dont over power the speaker and damage it. When connecting speakers in series the total of the impedance of the speakers is the impedance of each individual speaker added together. In our example the total impedance will be 2+2+4=8ohm
The parallel connection impedance calculation is a bit more complex.
1/Rtotal = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R2
1/Rtotal = 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/4
Rtotal = 0.8 ohm

If you have Microsoft Excel installed in your computer you can enter the following formulae as shown into the spreadsheet. After entering the formulae you must enter the values of the speakers into fields A2, B2 and C2 and it will calculate the total impedance for you.
Using less speakers just remove C2 from the formula.
Using more speakers add for instance D2 into the formula
For your specific amp make sure the load you connect is not less than 1 ohm. It is safe to connect more than that but using less will result in the amp protection circuitry to be activated.
If you use one speaker only then there is no adjustment to be made.
Your particular amp can also connect to an additional amp( and speaker) by using the "PASS-THRU" connectors. This saves you from using an additional set of signal wires from the head unit.
I hope that you now have a better understanding of amp wiring.

### I have 2 10" Kicker Comp Subs

That amplifier is only rated at 150 watts at 4 ohms, or 300 watts at 2 ohms. Not a very strong amp to run 2 kicker comps. My guess is you have the subs wired wrong for your application. There are 2 types of subs, one is a dual 4 ohm, and one is a dual 2 ohm. Most people bridge these coils together and that cuts your ohms in half. For example. Lets say you have the 10cvr104 subs. Thats the dual 4 ohm sub. You wire the coils together in parallel, now its a 2 ohm sub. You have 2 of these subs running off of your amp, if they are hooked up in parallel, now you have a 1 ohm load, out of the amplifiers normal operation. Your amplifiers internals heat up really quick and there is a thermal overload, putting your amplifier into circuit protection mode. My suggestion for wiring your subs is as follows: for each speaker, wire the coils together like this- positive coil1 to negative coil 2 and negative coil 1 to positive coil 2. That is called running in series, and doubles your ohm load. Next, we need to wire the speakers together properly to hook up to your amplifier. For this, since the coils are hooked together, you only need to use one set of terminals from each sub. And take the positive from sub 1 and hook it to positive of amp. Take negative sub 1 and hook it to positive of sub 2. Take negative of sub 2 and hook it to negative of amp.

Safe down to 2 ohms, NOT a 1 ohm stable amp, it will be pushing it hard even at 2ohms but Fosgate's should be able to handle it providing that the install and all cables,wire,connections,etc. are sanitary!

### Will a JL audio 1000/1 amp run a orion HCCA 15

Hello evopower,

The JL 1000/1 will power the Orion HCCA OK.

It is stable only to 1.5 ohms so your best choice would be the 15.4 with dual 4ohm voice coils. In parallel, this would offer a 2ohm impedance. The 15.2 could only be wired for either a 1ohm load (too low) or a 4ohm load (less power).

A single 4 ohm speaker wired to each channel, like you have them wired, presents a 4 ohm load. And it appears that you have them connected properly. The 401s is only stable to 4 ohms when bridged, so if you were to parallel the 2 4 ohm subs in bridged mode, the load would be 2 ohms and the amp would most likely overheat and go into protection.

I'd wire them the way you have them wired.

Each channel of the amp outputs only 100 watts into 4 ohms. That is adequate for regular full-range speakers, component speakers, mid-range drivers, and even some small subs. But it is a little low on power for most subwoofer applications.

Wiring 4 speakers to each of 2 channels, you will need to wire them series-parallel and run them at 4 ohms. If you wire all 4 parallel, the load will be 1 ohm and the amp is only stable down to 2 ohms.

According to your manual, the 201s will deliver 50 watts into each channel at 4 ohms . So it will be supplying about 12.5 watts per speaker which is about what you get with the average factory radio. They will work OK, but they're not going to be very loud.

Well, you did not specify whether you have the 2 ohm or the 4 ohm versions of the L7 and that will impact your choice of amps. But with 8 voice coils and 4 subs to work with, you certainly have lots or potential configurations.

If your subs are the 4-ohm version, I would recommend the Alpine MRP-M1000. Currently it is on sale at www.crutchfield.com for \$347.00. With this amp you'd wire the voice coils in parallel (2 ohms), wire each of the 2 pair of subs in series (4 ohms), and the resulting pairs parallel to the amp for a final load of 2 ohms.

If your subs are the 2-ohm version, I would recommend the Rockford-Fosgate Punch P1000-1bd which is stable at 1 ohm. Crutchfield sells it for \$349.99. With the Punch and 2-ohm voice coils, you'd series the voice coils (4 ohms), parallel each pair of subs (2 ohms), and then parallel the resulting pairs to the amp for a final load of 1 ohm.

Either of these amps will provide an honest 250 watts RMS to each L7. They'll not only rock your vehicle, they'll rock the pavement.

u should be able to just dont wire the subs sown to 1/2 or 1 ohm I believe these amps can handle 2 ohms and above
