Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hi ~ I am considering purchasing a used Kenmore washer model 110.26852503. I can not find any information on the internet as far as how this item was rated at time of initial sale, or the age of machine. Wondering if this model is the type of newer ones that only fill to half full at rinse time. Any info you may have will be appreciated. Also, I did find several comments problems with overfilling, not spinning properly etc. WAS THIS MODEL A LEMON? Thank you for your expertise.

Sears / Kenmore top load, direct drive washers are made by Whirlpool.

Following is the Sears parts site for these washers with diagrams and parts lists.

From the main page you should also be able to link to their manuals site.

Following also is the Whirlpool Service Manual for these washers:$FILE/L-55.pdf

From my experience (I have one), these are solid machines without all of the electronic bells and whistles of the newer machines.

They are also VERY easy to fix if something goes wrong.

The main problems that I've seen are defective Lid Switches (it won't agitate nor spin unless the switch senses that the lid is down) an $18.00 part and worn/broken Motor Couplers, also very easy to replace.

How old is the Kenmore Stackable washer/dryer, model 110.88752793?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

I would expect that to be found on the manufacturer's plate, probably on the back. I doubt anyone on this Forum would have such information; it's just made up of ordinary guys and gals, probably at home and from all over the world, with experience of addressing problems and giving guidance for free on the web ;-0)
Also members on Fixya are not 'affiliated' to, or representative of, any manufacturer at all, just using their experience gained probably over many years.

If this has assisted and/or clarified the situation for you please consider a 4 thumbs up on our rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Kenmore washer only fills on the warm water temp control and dribble fills on with the other choices. When it goes to rinse, it dribbles on all temperatures. Have resorted to fill by hand. No problem...

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
As you have already checked the hoses are not kinked and the in-line filters are clean, this is symptomatic of a malfunctioning cold water control valve. Sorry but it needs replacing and a service call to confirm that it is not something else- like the control board not feeding the correct voltage to the valve ;-0(
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Washer: Sears Kenmore 80 stylemaster 902202 Model: 110.72780100 Stock: 10 Hz: 60 Amperage: 27801 Ser #: 120 073287344 Problem: Does NOT drain or spin. Motor works as it agitates on all settings....

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

See this diagram:

Open the back panel and look at the 2 solenoids that rock back and forth on the top of the transmission. (Item 75 of link) There are 2 gliders / one under each solenoid. Check the one that goes to the slidebar that would acuate the pump. Make sure the rivet (Item 46) is not sheared in that piece. If the rivet is sheared it woull not spin or pump out. The rivet actuates the slide bar to drop the spin tube onto the clutch so it will spin. No rivet.... USE a cotter pin to replace the rivet. (may have to drill out part of old rivet.) If the rivet is in place check the winding on the solenoids for continuity. If the windings of the solenoid check good then check the lid switch. You should hear a click as the lid just opens or closes.
No click = bad switch. Lid switch is item 19 this link:

This information should help you resolve your problem. If not respond here and I will help you.

I have an old kenmore washer, on which I cannot find the model number. It needs a new drive belt. The only information that I have is that it is marked as a Kenmore Heavy Duty 80, and inside the door is...

Go to a local Sears or Whirlpool store and tell them you have an old "belt drive" Kenmore washer that needs a new belt. All of these were built by Whirlpool Corporation and I believe used a common belt.

Good luck.

I have a Kenmore Elite top load washer, model # 110.16972500. I got a shoelace cought under the agitator.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

Take a look at this link so you can see what parts secure your agitator in place:

Also see this link for item number descriptions:

You have to lift off the cap (Item 1) and then the inner cap & washer (Items 22 and 23) to get to the mounting bolt item 21. You will have to use a socket and an extension to remove the agitator mouting bolt. After removing the mounting bolt you should be able to lift the agitator to free the shoe lace. Re-assemble in reverse order. Mounting bolt... inner cap and washer... then the top cap.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Kenmore washer Model : 110.23902200 The washer will not spin. I looked under the bottom and could see belt and gear turning but tub would not spin. Sound like it is spinning though!

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured TOP LOADER (such as Kenmore), and the model number you provided is correct, these washers do not have a drive belt. The following link is a parts illustration of your drive system: Whirlpool washers use a motor coupling in place of drive belt and are known as "direct-drive" systems. The motor coupling is listed as item 13 under the "Brake, Motor, Clutch, Gearcase, Motor and Pump" parts listing. A no agitation or spin problem can have several causes. Most commonly, this is caused by either a lid switch malfunction or a broken motor coupling. The following link explains how you can diagnose the problem yourself and repair:

From the symptoms you describe, this sounds like a broken motor coupling. A very inexpensive and simple repair. However, make sure you read the link provided and verify your symptoms to be sure.
Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers from the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. Most of these parts are commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory.

Read through the information provided. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.
FYI: In less common situations, the problem could be related to a bad gearcase (transmission) or timer. These parts generally cost more as well. I would recommend you verify the simple items first and check your symptoms. If you need further guidance, let me know.

I have a 110.47532600 washer and the door gasket is leaking (ripped) Can I buy a replacemnet

You certainly can. carries the part for about $64. Just type in your model number and look under the "Door and Latch Parts" section for item 1. You may also consider items 2 and 8. Item 2 is the rear bellow clamp. Item 8 is the front bellow clamp. Order only if your existing clamps are damaged or broken. If you need instructions on how to replace the bellow, the following link explains:

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Replacing Door Gasket on Kenmore Elite HE3

The following link explains how to replace the door bellow on a Kenmore front loader:

Replacement door bellows can be purchased online at Just type in your model number and look under the "Door and Latch" heading for item number 5 (part #8181850). I would also suggest items 6 and 14, which are the front and back bellow clamps (if needed). Sometimes the clamps can break.

To keep your door bellow clean and free of mildew in the future, I recommend you read the following link:

I personally own, one these models and have never had a mildew or odor problem by following these simple steps (and I have a family of 8). If you do not like leaving the door open, because of small children, the control panel can be locked so the controls cannot be manipulated. Do this by pushing and holding the "Drain/Spin" button for 3 seconds (this information shouod be printed on the control panel under the button).

I hope this information helps you.

Front Loader Kenmore Mod # 110.44832202 is leaking.

The rubber seal is known as a bellow. If the bellow is torn, more than likely it IS the cause of your leak. Your only course of action is the replace it. carries replacements. Just type in your model (as you provided) and look under the "Door and Latch Parts" heading for item number 1 (part #8182119). It is not a cheap part, but it will cost you much more to have an appliance repair company install it for you. This is not a difficult repair, and you can accomplish this on your own if you follow these steps:

Some additional parts that normally do not need replaced, but you may consider just in case are the front and back clamps that hold the bellow in place. They are listed under the same heading as items 6 and 14. They don't cost that much and may consider them just in case you need them. In particular, the front clamp, can break or the spring becomes stretched. Inspect these items just to be sure.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS You may also try for comparative pricing. They also carry the same parts (sometimes for less).
