Freezer side not freezing

Check for ice / frosting inside the freezer .... If present you probably have a defrost problem.... This causes the freezer coil to ice up and block the air flow ... the causes could be a bad defrost heater , defrost timer, defrost sensors, or control board. Also make sure that the condenser coil is clean. remove ALL dust with a vacuum and a coil brush .the coil is located either on the bottom or on the back side of the unit... You didn't give the Make and model #

It seems that the temp more often goes up to 20-30's and that food is not as frozen when I check it. When temp goes up I check it for next couple of minutes and usually within 10 min the temp is back down...

This is normal. All commercfial freezers must defrost 3 to 5 times a day, or they will freeze over at the coil and then stop freezing. A timer in your freezer turns off the compressor and turns a heating element on for 10 to 15 minutes. During that time the coil heats and melts frost from the coil. Usually within 30 minutes the temperature will briefly rise to 20 t0 25 degrees F and then quickly drop down to 0 degrees F. The food rarely defrosts in this short period of time..

Icemaker not making ice, water for drinking is working fine

First, check the temp inside your freezer with a thermometer. It should be around -10 degrees. (Your ice maker has a thermostat inside it that turns the ice maker off once the temp inside the freezer gets above a set temp that's around 26 degrees.) . Check the inside lower back panel of the freezer and see if it has ice or frost built up on it. If so, you have a defrost problem. It can be your defrost heaters or defrost control board. Take the inside lower back panel off. Defrost with blow dryer. Once the ice is defrosted, you will see a coil. Now look around the coil and you will find a black round piece (Made from the same material a stove element is made of) shaped like a U that goes around the coil. It will have a wire connected to it on each side of the coil. This is the heater. Be sure it does not have a burned place on it. If you have a meter, check and see if it has continuity. If not, it's bad.
You can find it at www.partselect.com Their part number for the defrost heaters is PS469556 Their price is $74.82. If it does not have continuity and has no burned place on it. The problem will be with the board. It's located in the top on the left wall of your fresh food section behind the controls. www.partselect.com also has this part. Their part number for it is PS735384 and it cost $101.27. If I had to guess, I would say it's the heaters rather than the board. The heater is a lot more common to go out than the board. At www.partselect.com enter your model number and it will bring up a blow up of the parts in you unit. This will help you find where they are inside your unit. Good luck.
Sorry for going on and on but I just trying to help you save a service call.

Freezer compartment has frost buildup

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

Refrigerator is barley cold, still makes ice, condensation inside of frostless freezer

Hi: The fact that it still makes ice tells me the freezer is a zero degrees. When you said condensation in the freezer did you mean frost? If your defrost heater fails it will cause the frost free freezer to build up frost. The frost will build up and block the vent that supplies the cold air to the fresh food. The defrost heater is behind the metal wall at the back of the freezer, at the very bottom. A glass tube with a metal coil in it. The coil can break and stop the defrosting. Replace that. Use a hair dryer to melt the frost from behind the panel. All of it top to bottom. You need to remove all the frost to free up the airways. I hope this helps, Jeff

Temp problem. freezer temp 0 deg. fresh food 46 deg.

An hour aint enough. Turn off fridge, use blow drier, thers a huge ice cube behind that sheetmetal wall back of freezer inside wall, it takes 48 hours at 75 degrees to let it do itself. Listen for inside motor, its obvious. If so, you hve a defrost problem.

How great is the freezer temperature? Look for frost on the freezer back wall. If there is frost there you have a defrost system problem.
the refrigerator is cooled by air it receives from the freezer. When the freezer coil freezes up the air circulation stops.
