Question about Panasonic NV-GS15 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Open eject does not function

My Panasonic NV-GS15 has been showing instability for a while, often asking me to push the reset switch. When I opened it recently after one day's rest withg baqttery attached -I usually take them off- I noticed that light was on even though the switch was off. Sometimes I had problems with the "open eject" function. Now it doesn't work at all. I hear some tick-tack inside the camera (like a watch) but it does not answer this function or any other. Even when I switch off it doesn't unless I remove battery. Could you give me any recommendation or solution to this apparently serious problem? I am in Iceland an we have few specialists here around.

If you plug it into the wall, does it do the same thing?

If it does you should take it into a camera store to see whats going on with it.

Try re-setting the camera by pushing the reset-switch with a small object (like a pen).

You need to know in which position was camera turned of.
So try turning it on in RECORD OR PLAY position.
It will work then...

Service manual for Panasonic Handycam NV GS15

I fixed 2 cameras with same problem "Push Reset Switch"
Removed small foreign plastic object which was jamming mechanism without stripping.
In both cases a very tiny piece of one of the broken plastic 'catch' of the door was the problem.
Turn unit upside down and give it a good shake-up and it will drop off & problem solved.
Hope this helps.

Tape rack stayed open

A similar thing happened to me - I took it to panasonic service centre to fix and unbelievably the problem was that the HAND STRAP was quite tight (I have small hands and set it snug) and prevented the door from openeing just another milimetre more, and thus caused the carriage to 'jam'. Loosening the hand strap and opening the door allowed the tape carriage to move properly again. This was a great relief (although I still had to replace the carriage mechanism a few months later.....due to reset button message)
