Your mower has a mule drive PTO. The belt starts at the clutch goes down to two idler pullys then back to the deck. You said you lubed the spindles, the only other moving parts (idlers) are preminently sealed. You cant lube these even if you wanted to, they do fail. The usually get loose, but sometimes the seize and smoke your belt. There is a tensioner arm on the deck, remove the tension, then (with the tractor off), spin by hand all of the idlers on the deck and the two up front on the tractor (mule drive). They should spin freely and quietly, if they are loose or wobble or make noise, replace them. Also while you are under there, spin the spindles (blades), they should spin freely as well, with no bearing noise or movement. The way to check that is to reach under, find the end of the blade and lift up on then pull down on, it should be tight. If it moves, the blade is either loose or the bearings are failing. These are the things that are the PTO components, All have to be working with freely moving parts, or you could have resitance that will smoke belts, or shred them depending on the failure.

As far as the clutch, it either works or it doesnt. With the tractor off and you sitting on the seat, turn the ignition to the run, not crank position. When you engage the clutch you should hear a "Clunk" when you pull the yellow knob. If so it works fine.

Hope this helps.

My Cub cadet pto cluch bearing is froze up on my 2518 lawn tracto

A medium length extension (stuck through the grill), a swivel and an impact is all you need to remove the pulley with the frozen bearing. It's just a bolt, a washer, and a lock washer holding it on. You just need to remove the pulley to see if the bearing is stuck. Take the pulley to your local shop that can press bearings and you can be up and running for $20 dollars instead of $300. Here's a diagram I found on partstree:

If its an electric PTO then the switch on the dash is bad, Its a lever type ungagement then the little break shoes that rub on the blade spindles are either worn out or mis adjusted. If it started when you changed the blade drive belt its possibly the wrong belt??

Noisey Cub Cadet mower

If the noise is coming from the deck, locate the idle pulley on the deck. there should be 1 or 2 rubber "bumpers" at the opposite end of the pulley arm where it meets the "j" pin. If they are missing, it will make a loud metal to metal sound.
