Question about Umax Office Equipment & Supplies

I have a Umax Mirage 11 that has worked perfectly up until now. Just recently though the LED lights that signal that the scanner is ready to scan have stayed blinking continually instead of becoming steady after around 30 seconds.This means that the scanner is not recognized by the computer as a scanner ready to scan. Please advise, I can't afford a new scanner that scans with this kind of quality and I'd love to be able to get this up and running again... Thanks Peter

    I have tried the advice offered but unfortunately this does not work....Unless the scanner actually starts properly I cannot see how drivers come into the equation as the computer is just waiting for this startup process to finish.I should have mentioned that I have a Mac and I usually go back to an OS 9 or Tiger on my old computer to use the scanner.In the past it has always worked just fine in either.
    For your information I have the original software and Silverfast reinstalled for drivers.

    Please advise...if I really need to pay more I'll do whatever it takes to sort this problem out.

    I should have mentioned that normally use my old Mac G4 for scanning.I have already reinstalled the original Umax software as well as reinstalling Silverfast.I had a choice of using either Mac OS 9 or Tiger for scanning purposes.I have not had any problems before now.



    I have tried disconnecting the scanner from the computer but obviously when I power up the device I still have the startup problem with the blinking lights so the scanner will not proceed with it's own problem detection until it is properly powered.

    My Umax Mirage 11 scanner will not complete startup so my computer will not recognize it.The three amber lights just continue to blink past the usual 30 seconds.
    I have the correct drivers installed and I am also using Silverfast. Normally this arrangement works perfectly.I tried disconnecting everything and rebooting the scanner while it is not connected to the monitor but it still fails to start properly.
    I am using my second computer with Mac OS 9 and also Tiger which was compatible with my scanner setup.
    Please advise....If I need to pay more for this service I will be happy to do so. I am desperate to solve this problem as this is a great scanner and purchasing another one as good as this is just not an option right now.

    I have a Umax Mirage 11 scanner.It will not complete startup, it has three continually blinking lights that should remain steady after around 30 seconds.The power cable is OK as far as I can tell.If it was not I feel sure that there would not even be sufficient power to move the light tray normally as it does now.
    It is not attached to the computer because I know the driver is definitely not the problem.If the scanner does not complete startup even if the computer were connected it would not recognize that the scanner was there.
    Please advise.The previous comments did not help although I appreciated the input.

    The power adapter is exactly the one intended for the scanner and has never been changed.The scanner has been tried on two computers one with the old OS version and the other with the new latest OS version.

Hello

It sounds to me that you have a power problem!

Make sure your scanners power adaptor is working properly!

And that the one you are using really is meant for your scanner!

Check Volts and Amps on it! It´s not normal that the lights on it´s flickers!

If all these are in place then the Umax is not compatible with THAT OS version.

Do not worry. We will make this scanner work again like new.

I have umax 4700 scanner. When I tried to scan something it shows "scanner lamp has not warm up yet" & keep counting upto 30 seconds. It will take 4 to five time this exercise than it's ready...

Is that scanner old?because lamp has its own life span.

it cannot scan if the lamp is insufficient power or light.

Could be a SCSI termination issue. Try changing the SCSI address number on the scanner to a different one and make sure the chain is terminated properly. If there are multiple SCSI devices in the chain, disconnect all the others until you are sure the scanner is working then slowly add the other devices to the chain making sure everything works as each device is added. SCSI voodoo!

My Umax Astra 1220U Flatbed Scanner will scan but the image comes out with a dark "haze" so as to barely read the document. What I am scanning is on white paper with black lettering. Can you help?


It probably needs cleaning. I had a streaking problem with my UMAX 1220 and followed the instructions on this website

Remember to disconnect from the electricity supply!!!

The job is not too difficult and it restored my scanner perfectly.

UMAX Mirage II Scanner


I have this scanner.... I had to take the scanner apart(take the cover off) very simple to do. This is a very simple fix. Obvious fix. You will see when you open it where the switch is. Mine was not making contact. You might be stuck with it in the on position once you fix it.

I had the same problem. I turned off the scanner and unplugged the transparency unit from the back of the scanner and restarted and it is working fine now. Hopefully this works for you as well.
