Question about Amana PTH153B50AE Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a AMANA PTh153B50AE (PTAC unit). The air conditioner works fine. It is when I turn on my heater and it does not get warm. It just blows cold air. I have looked at the board and it appears that there are no bad spots on the board from where it had burnt. It appears that it may have a manual heater reset button. I am not sure if that will work but I can;t find the reset button. I am wondering if my heat pump has gone bad. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same problem, and I found the manual reset inside the unit. Turn the power off, and unplug the unit. Remove the outer cover of the unit ( inside cover ) , and remove the 2 screws holding the " wire mesh " in the front of the cover. Pull the wire mesh up and out of the way, then carefully pull out the heating element.
On the heating element, where the wires are connected, there is a manual reset button... Push the button in, till it resets...

My reset was on the upper left connection of the wires... just looks like a small push button, but the reset is recessed a bit.
Replace all covers and plug back in.. working fine..

Over the course of having one of these same units, I have had to replace the main circuit board 3 times. It always fails at the same location on the board..i.e., at the heat relay..it looks like the relay arced out and burned a whole in the board.. in my opinion, after having this fail numerous times, it was a design flaw and should have been corrected long ago..

Have Ptac units that work fine one minute and 2 hours later just blow warm air.. some that also freeze up the front coils

I think your PTAC is under charge, if the air filter is clean and the evaporator is also clean together with the blower. Check the freon charge and refill if suction pressure is below 50psi and discharge is below 190 psi.

Not blowing warm air.

you should probebly have a technician ;look at your unit . if its a heat pump the reversing valve may not be owrking correctly. Also if it is not a hp then the electric heaters may have a bad sequencer and or limit that is not operating properly. Either way the quickest way to get it up and runing would be to call a technician out to repair it. Have a Merry Christmas!
