Question about Computers & Internet

My USB flash drive is not working. When I plug it into my Windows XP desktop, i get the message saying it is installing required drivers, and it says the USB is "2233 PRAM USB". The LED light on the USB never goes off and I cannot access it. I have tried to go to the devices manager, but for some reason, when I disable it, nothing happens. Please I need help!

Hi,

Plug it back in and see "how many drives" are created. Some flash/usb drives create two drives when plugged in. When this happen open up both of them and one of them will allow you to save information. Try finding drivers for it. Update it. Thank you.....

Hi john_nelson0,

First check the other USB ports. Try it in the USB ports on the back of the computer. If that doesn't help then make sure you have the latest WinXP service pack installed. Although it is possible to have a problem with the drivers, they are built into Windows and are not available for download from Kingston. Do any other USB drivers work on that computer?

I need XP drivers for R20

Go to download.com and get Driver Magician Lite 3.44. Download it to a flash drive. Plug the drive into the computer and install DML. When it has run, save the non-Windows drivers back to the flash drive. Now you have all of the drivers from your computer that do not come with Windows. You can leave them on the flash drive or burn them to cd.

Kingston 4GB Data Traveler USB 2.0 flash drive not recognized by eMachines T1090 with Windows XP Home Edition. Says it needs a driver????

probably, the driver was not installed by default.

1. launch the flash drive web site and download the driver for flash drive.

2. test the flash drive with windows xp service pack 2 operating system,if it works without a driver. then providing a driver for your window will do.or upgrade the os

The flash drive purchased doesnot work when pjugged into the usb port on my desk top but it work on my lap top? How do I get it to work on my desk top

Hello claponte

FIRST, THE HARDWARE SIDE:
If you just purchased your flash drive, then it is using the USB 2.0 (high speed) standard. Prior to that were USB version 1.1 and, before that, USB 1.0 standards.

USB 2.0 devices will still work when plugged into USB 1.1 ports - just at a reduced speed)

However, computers w/ USB 1.0 ports cannot properly detect USB 2.0 devices. On those computers, you'd need to install a USB 2.0 expansion card in order to add USB 2.0 functionality to the computer.

SECOND, THE SOFTWARE (DRIVERS) SIDE:
On the software side, USB devices are "plug-and-play" on Windows XP & Vista systems. This means they do not require special drivers or installation for them to work properly. The drivers needed for them to operate are already built into the operating system.

However on operating systems prior to Windows XP (Windows ME, Windows 98SE, Windows 98...) drivers are needed for USB devices to be detected properly.

These are two possible reasons why your flash drives don't work on your desktop computer.
(01) The computer is an older one using USB 1.0 technology
(02) The operating system is pre-Windows XP

Another possibility is (if your computer USB ports are at least 1.1 standard and your operating system is at least Windows XP) there is an issue w/ the USB ports on your desktop computer. This could be a hardware or a software issue still.

Please, let us know if that's the case and we'll help you to trouble-shoot the issue.

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for you or, of course, if you have any further questions.

Thank you
BJ
