SOURCE: Bissell Proheat 2x Series 8920 - Brush Belt Metal Shaft Sprocket won't turn

Most likely the brush motor is bad and not turning, part #2036757, would sell for around $23. To get to it, start taking out screws on the top cover, that motor is under the that top access cover.

SOURCE: Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

SOURCE: Brushes not rotating on my Hoover Steam Vac Dual

The brushes are all connected to a single shaft. This square shaft is connected to 2 sets of gears and then another shaft which is turned by an impeller (suction from the vaccum pump is used to turn the impell and thus the brushes). There are 2 bearings that the impeller shaft turns on. It's likely these are rusted up and just need a bit of WD 40. Took me 30 min to take apart, lube, and put back together. Remember, its plastic. If things won't come apart, look for another screw. Mine was a brand new unit and the top bearing was rusted.

SOURCE: The brush bar on my Dyson DC17 stopped turning.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.

We have several parts here for the Proheat 2X,

It may be a clog in your tank, preventing the water being sucked back up. Check your tank and tubes for clogs or damage. Make sure the brush is still rotating and the belt is not broken too.

Brush roller not spinning. belt, spindle okay. roller taken out and cleaned, no thread. replaced but no dice. ???

Use only BISSELL Style 10 Replacement Belts (#32074) in your BISSELL PowerForce Bagless.
  1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.
  2. With Rotating Floor Brush removed from vacuum cleaner, grasp old Drive Belt and remove from Motor Pulley. Discard old Drive Belt.
  3. Place new Drive Belt over Motor Pulley and stretch other end over Rotating Floor Brush in the space between the bristles.
  4. Place ends of Rotating Floor Brush down into slots on sides as shown.
  5. Turn Rotating Floor Brush by hand several times in the direction of Motor Pulley. If properly installed, Drive Belt will center itself on Rotating Brush.
  6. Reposition Brush Cover and snap back into place. Check to be sure all three latches are secured.
  7. When you turn on the vacuum, do you see the motor that spins the belt spinning at the bottom? If not, it sounds like you may have a burned out motor.

Need to replace belt and cannot figure how to take it apart to get at the belt --- Took Screws off on the bottom but could not get to the belt

You have already removed the screws so lift the brush cover off. Then grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift. Clean strings, hair and other debris from rotating brush, paying close attention to the brush ends. Clean the debris from motor pulley and drive belt areas.Grasp old drive belt and remove from motor pulley. Place new drive belt over motor pulley and stretch other end over rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles. Place the ends of the rotating floor brush down into slots on the sides. Turn the rotating floor brush by hand several times in the direction of motor pulley. If installed properly, drive belt will center itself on rotating brush. Reposition brush cover and screw back into place. I hope that this helps you!

The brush will not rotate. I thought this was a direct drive system.

Note: The brush will not rotate when the machine is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.

- Check the belt through the clear brush cover. If this appears damaged or broken, please take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center to have this replaced. If the belt is intact, please continue checking the following:
- Ensure both power switches are turned on when you check for brush rotation.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the handle completely. Slide handle back into the lower section of handle, ensuring the screw is in tight. If the handle is not aligned properly, this will affect the power of the brush motor.
- Look for debris wrapped around the brush (i.e. string, hair, fibers, etc.). When the machine is unplugged, cut away any visible hair, fibers or debris from the brush roller. This brush is NOT removable from the machine.
- If something has become lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn off the vacuum and unplug this from the outlet. You can now remove the obstruction. The brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.

If you continue to experience difficulty with this, please take your machine to the following Service Center in your area. The warranty on this machine is five years.

The brushes on my Bissell 9200 have stop rotating. The microswitch near the wheel seems to be OK. How can I troubleshoot the problem?

If the belt is still OK and you can turn the brush by hand (make sure the power is off when you try) then there is only the drive motor and the power switch left in the circuit. Bissell's are very simple machines and you can easily remove the topc over with about 6 screws so you can get at the insides and spares are easily obtained.

The brush will not turn

Hi! Your question has come up under Bissell ProHeat, so I'll assume that's the model you're talking about.  There are several possibilities. The simplest is that the drive belt has broken. There are two drive belts on the ProHeat and you're best advised to go to the Bissell website (www,bissell.com) where you can download a manual for your exact model.  Worst case scenario, which I have seen, is where the brush drive motor has become wet, it has corroded and will no longer rotate, and this burns out a little circuit board that's located in the handle. If your belts are OK, and the brushes are free to rotate, there's probably a problem with the motor and I strongly recommend consulting a professional repairer. Getting in to the machine is a minor nightmare, and getting it back together is worse. The cost of such a repair may well exceed the value of the machine. Good luck!  I value your feedback.  If this has helped please remember to rate me.  If it hasn't helped, please re-post with more details and I'll try again.
