Question about IBM ThinkPad T21 2648 Notebook

1 Answer

It's an IBM Thinkpad, I'm not sure on the year (if that even matters!) Ok, when I turn it on, this is what first pops up: We apologize for the inconvience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, chose last known configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed or if you aren't sure what caused the problem chose Start Windows Normally (Then it gives you these options:) Start Mode Start Mode with networking Start Mode with command prompt Last known configuration (No matter which one I chose, even cancel, it goes into this screen and this is exactly how it appears and how it's written:) Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is: FAT32 One of your disks needs to checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is stongly recommended that you continue. Windowns will now check the disk. Volume cerial number is 3F3F - 14FO /pagefile.sys fisrt allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated. (Then I let it go through the scan, then this screen pops up:) STOP:0000218 (Registry file failure) The registry cannot load the hive (file): /systemRoot/system32/config/software or its log alternative It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable (Then goes into this:) Beginning dump of physical memory Dumping physical memory to disk: (bunch of numbers)

SOURCE: My computer won't turn on it reads STOP:(0000218)

Do you have in your possession the original disks that came with the machine? If not, try solving by starting in safe mode. This is done by pressing the "F8" key when the windows splash screen appears. Let me know and we will get it fixed.

Thinkpad 380ED error 161 163

Replace CMOS battery and reset time and date. Turn the computer over. Loosen 1 screw on RAM and CMOS door and lift door away. CMOS battery is to the left of the RAM chip (if you have the extra RAM installed.) Using a very small flat screwdiver, gently insert it under the bottom edge of the battery itself, between the rdge of the battery and it's holder, and GENTLY pry up the bottom edge of the battery. It will easily pop out. DO NOT REMOVE THE BLACK PLASTIC CMOS BATTERY HOLDER ITSELF OR YOU WILL RUIN IT! Go to Batteries Plus or Radio Shack and perchase a CP1220 (3volt) battery. They are less than $4.00. Make sure that you have the new battery correct side up and insert it back into the holder by sliding it in from the bottom and gently push down and the new battery will pop back in. Re-start your machine and when the errors pop up hit "enter" and then enter the correct time and date. You should be good to go from there. Don't let anyone badmouth your 380ED. I have one that I used at trade shows for years and it still performs perfectly. It is built like a tank and won't run XP but Win98 is just fine on this rig. IBM (Lenovo) sure built them with the consumer in mind back then. Easy to add RAM and change CMOS battery, unlike my new ACER Aspire One, and my vintage AcerNote Lite that has to be completely dissambled to do either!

Ibm t22 thinkpad laptop error 0175 crc1

Ok hm...

Sounds expensive, I'm afraid!

Here is IBM'smag-glass_10x10.gif explanation of the error codes.

What your machine is telling you is that a chip on your Motherboard is faulty and the only way to repair it is a new system board.

It is probably worth finding out how much IBM would charge you to repair it but I very much doubt you'd get much change from £500.

Hmmm....any ideas..

Check in control panel - system - device manager - hardware to see that there is no conflict on the built in network adaptor - click on the network adaptor properties to make sure it is enabled and working.

I don't mean to disagree with my associate, but DVD players for R series (or T, A, etc) can be found for less than 20.00 US (Ebay is a good example)
For that matter, we've got at least a dozen at our shop which we sell for 25.00
Installation is very simple as well, just pop the old drive out, put the new drive in.
Good luck
