Did you flush the refrigerator at all? Run water through it for about 10 minutes and that should do 2 things breakin your filter so it doesnt taste so foul. Also clear out any rust, dirt, or other contaminents that may be in your system after they flushed the water in your area.

one thing you can actually do with your old filter. Is take 1/3 cup of bleach pour it in your water line. Put it back together and run the water 'till you can smell the
bleach..Let it sit for awhile. Overnight wouldn't be to long..Then flush alot of water a gallon should do it.

you need to run the water for a minute or 2 usually before the bleach comes out. Then you can let it sit. then flush it for 10 minutes the next day.

one of the reason's this happens is that the filter takes out the chlorine. there for your hoses end up being susceptible to bacteria growth even more. I live in a place where we have heavy mineral water. Therefor i have to do this 2-3 times a year.

also if your not comfortable with the bleach method. Another one that helps but isnt all that effective. Is you bypass the filter. On almost all fridges you can choose to not use the filter by bypassing it. then use it for a week or 2 then hook the filter back up. and it will be somewhat better.

also on the bleach method you have to change your filter after you flush the system with bleach. So id say use the older filter that you purchased after the flush. Save the 2nd new one you just bought till after you flush the system.

You should be set after you do this. Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

I have an Amana refrigerator, model #ABB1922FEB2. The ice that is made by the automatic ice maker has a foul odor and taste. The water that comes out of our faucet tastes fine, and it's the same water...

can cause discolored or off-flavored ice.
Ice stored too long? Discard ice. Wash ice bin. Allow
24hours for ice maker to make new ice.
Odor transfer from food? Use airtight, moisture proof
packaging to store food.
Are there minerals (such as sulfur) in the water? A water
filter may need to be installed to remove the minerals.

I did not replace the water filter for a while, when I replaced it, the water taste and smell molded, HELP!

You will need to remove off the filter and flush the entire system befroe the new filter is replaced. So take the filter out and clean up use some light dilute pottasium per manganate( KMNO3) as a disinfectant or use any what you have to get rid of the mould taste, flush out well , clean your filter again with some light disinfectant and reset. So not use the first set of water/ice maybe to clear up all traces of bad taste. This will get rid of your problems. Good day

Metalic taste in cold water and ice cubes from refrigerator

I had a similar problem and I was able to get rid of it by replacing the copper lines that go to the refrigerator with plastic ones. It didn't make any sense to me since the pipes are all copper, but the taste is gone and hasn't come back.

Ice tastes bad. How do you flush the system?

Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.

Fridge is one week old both water and ice have a metalic taste. My old fridge had no problem. The only change was I went from copper tubing to plastic.

You probably shook lose sediments that collected in your old water line. Flush as often as you can and the taste will dissipate soon. In other words; run the dickens out of the water and use up the ice to flush it out completely. You might also be tasting the newness of the ice maker and related components. Flush, flush, flush. Also helpful is to clean thoroughly with baking soda everything you can get to.

Bad tasting water and ice from refridgerator.

i agree with rpbuice but in addition to flushing the water line you may need to replace the line then using the water dispencer run out about a gallon of water thru the door. this will clear the reservoir of bad tasting water. for the i/m throw out all of your ice then let it make a couple of batches and throw out that ice as well be sure to clean your ice bucket very good to remove any lingering tastes from the old ice.
fyi bad tasting water is generally from bad water supplies. good luck..

Bad water & ice cube taste

Hello redwood City
Welcome

You said,
Your Kitchenaid Superba KSRG25FKBL15 has bad tasting water and ice cubes. You replaced the copper tubing which delivers the water to the fridge and that didn't help. You replaced the copper tubing again with plastic tubing...no better. Any suggestions? Your tap water doesn't taste this bad.You bought a Kenmore french door fridge with water dispenser in the door in July 2008. The fridge has a filter. A few weeks after the fridge came the water and ice started tasting really bad, unlike any bad water taste I have ever tasted. And your tap water is fine. The bad taste appears to be random. Sometimes you get a cup full of nasty water and sometimes it tastes fine.

First you must know you have a 1 year warranty and can have them come out to fix anything, no charge. If it persists. You will have to get tough and you , MUST INSIST THEY REPLACE YOUR FRIDGE

When installing the water line these were a part of the directions!
Did you do this before connecting the water line to your fridge?
"Place the free end of the tubing in a container or sink, and
turn ON the main water supply. Flush the tubing until water is
clear. Turn OFF the shutoff valve on the water pipe. Coil the
copper tubing."

Whirlpool remedy
Off-taste, odor or gray color in the ice
1.Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or
off-flavored ice? Discard the first few batches of ice.
2.Have the ice cubes been stored too long? Throw old ice
away and make a new supply.
3.Does the freezer and ice storage bin need to be cleaned?
See “Cleaning” or “Ice Maker and Storage Bin.”
4.Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped
properly? Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help
prevent odor transfer to stored food.
5.Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)? A filter
may need to be installed to remove the minerals.
6. Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? Gray or
dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water filtration
system needs additional flushing. Run additional water
through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration
system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gal. [8 to 12 L] or 6 to
7 minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.

Let me know what works,
Thank You ,
HUUUM!!
