Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

I have a GEelectric percolator from about 1955. It looks like a pot belly stove, or an egg standing upright! It works fine, except the little red light that normally comes on when the brewing is completed no longer lights. I assume it is the bulb......but how do I get to it? It is located near the coffee brew setting mild-to-strong sliding lever.

Thanks for info... I never thought of a neon bulb! Anyhow I always loved perked coffee from these old, well seasoned pots. I've found drip coffee just isn't hot enough.

Plus, these chrome "eggs" look great in the kitchen....

Hello Theodore.
I also use a coffee pot similar to yours. Makes a great pot of coffee.
While I have never had to replace mine I have had these type apart years ago.
It probably has a 120V neon style bulb soldered into the circuit mounted behind the lens.
The bulb needs to be soldered in the the heater circuit so it comes on when the heat element is turned on.
Not sure where a person could find such a bulb anymore.
My GE pot has 4 screws on the bottom to separate it from the main body. I suspect that these would need to be removed to access it.
Perhaps yours is similar.
I hope this helps you repair it.
Thank you for using FixYa.

My dyson dc25 won't lock in the upright position

The DC25 Animal has a design flaw where part of the Duct Assembly (main part of the vacuum) where the Red lock bar goes over breaks off the Duct Assembly and it causes the DC25 to not be able to stand up normally. There is a short Youtube video describing this flaw.

Unfortunately, you can repair this except by replacing the entire duct assembly.

Power stops when vaccum is in upright position or when trying to use the wand.

Hi there,

When you stand your DC17 upright, the brushbar motor is designed to shut off. However, the suction motor should continue to run until you turn it off with the red on/off switch. If your cleaner shuts off entirely when you stand it upright, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can reach us by calling free on 1866MYDYSON. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

My West Bend 3520 percolator does not heat enough to actually percolate. It heats water to about 80 deg and then stops. Power cord looks fine. Any thoughts?

the thermostat isn't holding long enough to get the desired heat any longer,, it needs replacement , the parts are hard to locate, and then you need to have it replaced, so I guess it depends on if you want that done, or just get a new 12 cup one at target for around 40 bucks http://www.target.com/p/West-Bend-12-cup-Coffee-Percolator/-/A-12408458 I tried searching for the part you need, But was unable to locate it

Hi - my machine works perfect except that it has

I posted this same solution for another inquiry but I will state it again in case you can't find it. I tried everything as well to try and get my machine (only used twice) to **** up the dirty water and I couldnt' fix the problem - there was no suction at all. Then I discovered there is a tiny (about 1 inch square) red plastic filter that is in the removable section that has the round dial to switch from floor to tool. As I said, it is a small red plastic square and there is a little door on it. If you flip it open (It actually looks like it can be removed) you will probably find a bunch of hair or carpet fluff. Mine was completely blocked. Remove the stuff and your machine should now **** up the water perfectly. I hope this helps - it took me a long time to figure this thing out!

Won't stand upright again

My Dyson DC 25 animal had this problem earlier today, all of a sudden it wouldn't go back into it's upright position. I looked on the bottom and the red pedal has two metal pegs which are supposed to be in a hook shaped track. one peg had slipped into a hole outside of the track (leaving a little scratch indicating the path it had taken), and all I had to do was wrestle it out of that hole and back in place.

Beaters stop when vaccuming rug...didn't when new

I believe you need to change the belt that drives the brushes. When it gets stretched out, it will just spin on the axle of the motor or spin on the brush and smoke.

My Dyson upright suddenly won't stay in the upright position. It appears that a little rubber piece has fallen out of position.

- Stand behind the vacuum cleaner and look at the right-hand side wheel
- Remove the AI PIPE (it has two purple buttons that you push together to lift it up and out - it looks like a Tuba)
- Lay the handle down and look for a black button that will be exposed in front of the square hole
- Stick your index finger and middle finger into the vacant AI Pipe Hole (the square hole)
- Reach over with your thumb and press the black button in front of the square hole
- Whilst pushing the black button, lift your index finger and your middle finger and move the gray plastic piece up (lift the square
hole basically)
- Remove your fingers from the square hole
- Lift the handle and stand your machine back upright again
- Place the AI Pipe back into the square hole

Dirt Devil upright vac

It could be a broken handle release, but it also could be the the clamps where the handle asm, and the base hold together came use, this will cause this problem on some Dirt Devils. The top has to come off to check this out.
