Question about KitchenAid KIRD862VSS Kitchen Hood

1 Answer

I am trying to buy a KIRD862 downdraft for my existing granite counter top. Since it requries cutting granite, I call around to look for a contractor but without any luck. All the people doing kitchen remodeling install pre-fabricated counter-top only. Please advise how I can proceed.

Any granite fabrication shop should be able to send a couple workers out to cut the existing granite for your new downdraft.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

If you are talking about a gap caused by the height of the stove, You can lower the height of the stove by adjusting the threaded leg posts on the bottom of the stove. A more difficult fix would be in raise the height of the countertop and cabinets by shimming the bottom of the cabinets.

If your gap is not a height issue, then you can experiment with some type of trim around the stove itself. Local granite dealers has an assortment of trims for issues like this.

I was able to find a number of trims for a back gap on my granite countertops and backsplash from my local European Marble and Granite.

Replacing an old jenn air electric cook top with new 30" down draft gas cooktop. Need to know how to secure the cooktop to the granite countertop.

You should just be able to set the cooktop in after you attach the downdraft, usually there are tabs on the downdraft that clamp on to the granite cutout. There is probably a closed-cell foam strip that runs under the lip of the cooktop, I would just make sure it seals to the granite properly (no gaps) and put a couple dabs of silicone in between the lip of the cooktop and the granite. Usually the cooktop is heavy enough that the silicone will keep it from moving around.

Installed today and there is a four inch gap between wall and back of range! How do I get to be flush with back wall? Counter depth 24 inches with 1/4 granite over hang.

Have your granite contractor cut a "stove strip" to fill the space.  Completely normal.

Existing vessel sink is stuck to polished granite vanity top. We want to replace the sink with a different one but can't get the sink to release--we originally used silicone adhesive and have tried wedging...

Silicone is an excellent adhesive once it is fully cured. I would not try to pry it off but I would suggest that you take the blade out of drywall or utility knife and carefully try to cut through it. It probably will take several cuts to get the old basin free but thats the only way I can think of to do it without damage to counter top. Hope that helps. Thanks

I'm having my kitchen counter tops replaced with granite. I have a GE Model GSD700 dishwasher that is now attached to the existing counter top. The granite counter tops will not accept having a dishwasher...

• Purchase and install the GPF65 side-mount
bracket kit if the underside of counter is granite
or a similar material that will not accept wood
screws. The GPF65 kit is available from authorized
GE appliance dealers.

Also note that any stainless steel tub models would be able to accomadate granite tops without a kit, and I beleive all Profile GE models come with the kit included.

Installing JED8230ADB Cooktop Grill with down-draft exhaust

I can't imagine directing the downdraft vent back up to a traditional hood type system. Why bother, just don't use the downdraft or get a cooktop without a down draft and save money.

In granite, yes for any cooktop as long as someone can cut the correct size hole. Cooktops must be installed so the top is just about flush with the countertop. They all come with a template for cutting the right size hole in the countertop.

How to repair porcelain/cast iron sink scratches

You can repair the sink with an epoxy based porcelin kit

Epoxy will not show brush streaks it will levelitself out do not get any kits from HD or Lowes they do not harden

Go to Sherwin Williams and ask for an epoxy paint for porcelin

As for removing the under counter sink
I would try cutting through the caulk adhesive
between the bottom of the granite and cast iron
sink with a hack saw blade
I have used a diamond blade on a grinder and
cut through but it was not a granite counter top
Be extremely areful to suport the underside of the sink with 2x4 blocks to prevent stressing the granite as you cut through
Good luck

Installing a drop-in sink

The stone installer told you to use silicone,
what makes you think that you know more than he does about his product.
IF you go use lockdown screws, you will put tension on a thin granite slab at 4 or 6 points around the perimeter of a hole.
stone breaks under very small tensions
do as instructed and silicone the sink in place,
or void any warranty and buy the counter top again when you break it
formica is plastic on a chipboard substrate -not stone

not perhaps the answer you want to hear,

Granite installation didn't get flush with slide-in range

suspect your contractor didn't allow for the tiled floor. the range legs are usually adjustable up and down. have you checked this?
