Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a 15 year old HVAC system that uses a Carrier Weather Maker 8000 furnace. When we returned from vacation last week, we noticed that the furnace blower motor would not turn on. The A/C compressor and condenser fan would turn on, but not the evaperator/furnace blower fan. I started a component test, but the LED just continuously blinked rapidly. The code associated with this is "Line voltage (115V) polarity reversed or twinning problem. How do I fix this?

The control board seems to be detecting reverse polarity, and my first thought is that the relay contactors are oxidized, but you could also have a bad startup capacitor, and/or control board.
The only reason I say control board is because the LEDs are blinking- never a good sign, but sometimes unplugging and reconnecting the power resets the board.
The following web page lists the steps to check for this problem, and is a good troubleshooting guide, and hopefully will help you solve this:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Heat exchanger replacement for carrier weathermaker 8000

After 18 years of service, it is not cost effective to just replace the heat exchanger. Go the complete replacement route. There may be a utility company incentive to do it.

Carrier weathermaker 8000

The filter should slide out of a built in rack from the side of the furnace by the return inlet. It should have the size on it or you'll have to measure it. It may also be inside the bottom door. Pull the door up and out, the filter will be on one side or the other. Unless you have a special Hepa or electronic filtering system.

Hi, I have a Carrier Weathermaster XS. I don't

If I am correct, that is a gas furnace, right? I believe it may be between 15 and 20 years. Pro-active with and older gas furnace is never a bad thing. First of all it can become a safety issue, as concerns of heat exchangers cracking and leaking carbon monoxide into the home become increasing. Second, it sure only be 80% efficient, whereas a new condensing furnace today can be up to 95% efficient. That means that you currently only use 80% of the gas you are burning as actual heat transferred into the house via airflow, and the other 20% is literally leaving the house through the flue. So you can increase efficiency dramatically and be safe at the same time by replacing pro-actively

Furnace seems starved for air

Make sure the filter did not get sucked into the fan. Open up all registers both supply and return. Check the ductwork for butterfly dampers that may have vibrated close. Move all furnature and rugs away from return air grills.

Code 32 when wind blows

Hi and welcome to Fixya. I believe that the wind is affecting the draft. What I would recommend is to install a cap on the flue that is similar to a weather vane in that it rotates to block the wind from creating a downdraft in the flue. Some times depending on the direction and strength of the wind it will come up over the roof peak and then down the flue. A regular fixed cap may work too. You should be able to purchase one at your local hardware store. Please let me know if this was helpful. Good luck.

Carrier 58mvp furnace ecm motor is making viberating noises

ecms are pretty reliable and electronic failure is much more common than bearing or bushing wearout. i suspect the fins on the blower may be coming loose from their pressed on spline and that will start a vibration or shimmy or you could have thrown a weight that balanced the wheel . best to use to warranty to get a new wheel. good luck

Can't find FURNACE filter

First you have to get the old filter/s out. If not it will cause big problems in a short time. Use a coat hanger to grab the filter if you cant reach it. When you remove the old filter you will probably see how to install new ones. I think more than one filter is required for this furnace. Note the sizes of the old filters and buy the same replacements.

Don't worry about cutting some tape if needed. You can get another roll at any hardware supply. If all else fails, measure the interior of the return box and buy the right size filters. Remember, you must remove the existing filters!

Gas not coming on Carrier Weather Maker 8000

either the gas valve is not opening or your not getting gas to the furnace.  also the gas valve won't open unless the draft motor comes on.  if the ignitor is trying to light, but there's no gas, it might be a bad gas valve. i would call your closest NATE certified contractor
