SOURCE: Receiving error 388. Can receive faxes but won't connect with other fax machines when trying to send

Hi,

The reason for the error code:
4e5e48b.jpg Error Code: 386, 387, 388, 389, 390, 391, 392, 393, 394, 395 Definition

There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time.

Solution

Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

SOURCE: fax not working Error 388

I used to have the same problem anytime I tried to use the fax. Drove me crazy. The problem for me was that whenever HP software updated it corrupted the installed software and I had to reinstall the program.

I finally ended up copying the files from the install disk on to the hard drive so I could find it quickly when I needed it and HP would repair itself using the hd installation files.

You might also check the back of your printer to make sure that none of the cords are lose or the usb isn't loose from the pc. This will cause it to have problems with the handshake. I found especially during warm weather that they tended to get loose because of expansion.

Hope this helps...

Definition

Solution

Error 403:
Definition

During a V.34 transmission, the local machine is unable to connect (handshake) with the remote machine and is consequently unable to send a T30 frame. This occurs when the line is disconnected or if line conditions degrade during the session.

Solutions

  • Remove any pass-through devices from the phone line, and then try the fax again.
  • Confirm that the fax/phone cable is no longer than required, and that it does not pass near unshielded electric motors such as fans, heaters, or household appliances.
  • Try to send the fax at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.

We are unable to find the literature that came with this machine. What is Error 388?

Hi There,

HP All in One Error 388 is a FAX transmission error code that means the Fax software has encountered too much noise on the telephone line to talk to its destination. It's not a problem with your printer. The solution is to wait until line traffic noise subsides (try again later).

If you're not trying to send a fax then your software installation may be flawed in some way and uninstaling and reinstalling the printer would likely resolve the issue.

Best Regards.

What is error 388

there is not error code for the OfficeJet 4315. however, there are similar code for other Hp printer.
error "388" is lised as unable to detect T30 frames. in other words, the machine fail to establish comparable connection. this can be the machine trying to send out fax in high speed, or the phone line problem.
consult the user manul how to set a lower transmission rate, or try to send the fax at a differnt time of the day . If that still give you problem, please call the phone company and have they look a the phone line.
