SOURCE: my craftsman gas blower model

The bulb pulls fuel from the carb, so if there is a blockage in the fuel system up to the carb, or the carb itself the bulb will not fill and will be slow to return, as you have replaced the filter and line, the blockage must be in the carb, remove the screws securing the carb and remove it, there are two sections to the carb, the pump side, and the metering side, the pump side will normally be an alluminium cover held with a single screw, under here you will find a gasket a pump diaphram and a fuel inlet filter in that order, clean or replace the filter, if the diaphram is stiff replace it, now turn the carb over to the metering side, if the primer is on the bottom of the carb, remove the two screws securing its holding plate , remove the two other screws holding the cover on, if the primer is remote, just remove the four screws from the cover, under here you will find the metering diaphram, and gasket in that order, in the base of the carb is a sprung loaded metering lever, make sure this operates freely, up and down, and lifts the needle underneath, check the diaphram is soft and supple, if it is stiff replace it. If the primer is remote, make sure you have conected the pipes corectly, the longe pipe on the back of the primer ( pressure side ) is the return to the tank, not to the carb, the short pipe is the suction side and goes to the carb.

I have a stihl br 600 leaf blower and the primer bulb will not push in

Over time the bulb will harden or crack as they react to the fuel and will need replacing. Spare bulbs can be bought online, or take it to a service centre.

How to replace the primer bulb

Gain access to carb and right by the bulb you will see about 4 screws holding down a metal plate that holds down the primer bulb. Remove the screws and plate and replace damaged primer in same spot, and screw plate back on.

How do I replace a fuel primer build on the Stihl BR600 blower/

Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug and ensure it can't come in contact with the spark plug. Removal of the spark plug wire removes any possibility that power can be supplied to the engine of the blower during the repair.

Remove the screws that hold the air filter cover in place. Remove the air filter cover and air filter. Remove the air filter housing from the side of the machine. Removal of these components allows you access to the primer bulb, fuel line and carburetor.

How to replace fuel line in Stihl br 600 backpack blower

There is a fuel line kit for the BR 600. Part numbers is:4282 007 1014 - longer one goes from the fuel tank filter towards the primer pump. shorter one, from primer pump to carburetor.

  1. Make sure to take out the fuel filter from inside the tank by removing first the rubber grommet (rubber cap with 2 or 3 holes depending on the version of your BR600).
  2. Use a long sturdy wire with the end shaped like a hook: wide enough to hook the fuel line, but narrow enough to fit through the grommet hole.
  3. Unplug all the fuel lines and replace line.
  4. Remember that on some models a.) there is an extra hose to connect to the vent. b.) There are two fuel filters so the unit can pick up fuel from both corners of the fuel tank when fuel is low as the operator tilts the blower side to side when walking.
  5. Put them back together in the reverse order as taking them out. (But you know this already.)

My guesses:

Unless the fuel lines are severely deteriorated (this rarely happens), there is no need to replace them. Since you are suspecting the fuel line, then my guess is that you are experiencing fuel cut-off when operating the machine. There are underlying causes for poor performance of your units. Check for the following:

  • Plugged vent. Replace.
  • Cracked primer bulb. Replace.
  • Plugged fuel filter/pick-up. Water separation on your fuel may have occurred. Water will stick to the foam (outer white, may be ceramic on some models) and rust out the inner filter. Replace.
  • Your carburetor is messed up. We've had several of the BR 500 and 600 with messed up carburetors, having leaks. This should come up in the first few days of using the machine. Haven't seen it come up later.
  • A plugged muffler. Is a b14tch to clean. But if cleaning costs would be the same as replacement. Go for replacement.
  • And lastly, the ignition module. The ignition module may be defective and will cause the erratic running of the engine including random shutdowns specially when hot.The BR 500/600 are notorious for this and the occurrence of effective fixes has been off and on with Stihl. This has to be tested with proper tools.

Press primer bulb will start. I attempt to throttle but dies out what probable cause of this

I assume you have the choke/throttle setting on.

Sounds like fuel shortage.
Check tank filter.
I assume fuel is good in tank (not old or contaminated).

Get someone to give about half throttle will you attempt to start it, to see of this helps.

Otherwise you may require a new carburettor kit which includes a fuel pump replacement.
