The only explanation here is that the drive has failed since you have verified the USB port is active, that is all that is left, there is no part of the drive that is user repairable, you either send it back for repair (take to Best Buy) or you replace it, if the data on it can't be replaced and the drive is not repairable, then the Data can be still be recovered, take it to Best Buy on this or do a web search, there are many companies that can do hard drive data recovery, but be advised data recovery from a failed drive is expensive.

How to solve simple tech 160GB EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE

I was having a problem on Windows 7 with the SimpleTech 160GB drive not being recognized, went to the SimpleTech site and could not find any drivers - Went to MajorGeeks and found a driver update program - watch when you install it, do custom install so as not to get new homepage or toolbar. But it scanned and found where my drivers were deficient. Updated driver and drive is now recognized

I have a simpletech 120 GB external USB hard drive with NO power supply. Do you know what the power rating is (ac or dc, how many volts, amperage...) or where I can get a new power supply for it? -Thanks

12VDC, 1.5A external power adapter Well that is what this page says, it's not your 120GB drive but unsure if it's no the same model maybe. However all external HDD that need a power supply should be needing 12 volts, as they are just internal drives mounted in a shell and some simple circuitry to power and connect it.

Computer does not recognize simpletech

Assuming Windows, try the Device Manager and see if the (old) disk is listed there in the disk drives section.
If so, right-click it and select Uninstall. (do this while the new driver is disconnected)

That should force Windows to recognize and reinstall the new drive when you plug it again.

For other causes check out the external hard disk problems.
